Job Description
Job Title: Registered Nurse (RN)

Job Specialty: Specialty Surgical Unit - Medical Surgical with Orthopedic Focus

Job Duration: 13 weeks

Shift: Days, including every other weekend

Guaranteed Hours: 36 hours per week

Experience: Minimum 2 years of general medical-surgical experience; orthopedic experience is preferred

License: Active DE or compact state RN license required

Certifications: Basic Life Support (BLS) - Must be American Heart Association

Must-Have:

- General medical-surgical experience
- AccuDose medication system familiarity
- McKesson computer documentation skills
- Ortho experience preferred, but not required

Job Description:

- Care for a mix of medical-surgical patients, primarily orthopedic cases
- Manage post-operative care for total hip replacements (THR), total knee replacements (TKR), total shoulder replacements (TSR), geriatric fracture patients, and other fractures
- Handle medical overflow as needed
- Utilize equipment such as Continuous Passive Motion (CPM) devices, Bucks traction, and Wound Vacuum Assisted Closure (Vacs)
- Participate in unit-specific training and a general orientation program, including 2-3 shifts of front-line orientation on the clinical unit
- Work in a unit with a bed size of 25-34 rooms
- Maintain a nurse-to-patient ratio of 6 or 7 to 1
- Wear navy scrubs as part of the dress code
- Must not work on the unit without other staff present, no on-call requirements
- Potential to float to other medical-surgical units as needed

Comments: Every other week RN orientation planned. Guaranteed hours do not apply during orientation.
