Position: Senior Auditor – Trade Regulatory Audit (TRA) – U.S. Customs and Border Protection, Office of Trade. Location: Long Beach, CA; San Francisco, CA; San Jose, CA. Pay Range: $105,383.00/yr – $137,000.00/yr (GS-13, Step 1 – 10). Overview The Senior Auditor works in the Office of Trade to conduct external audits of multinational companies importing and exporting merchandise to and from the United States. The role supports the mission of CBP to facilitate legitimate trade, enforce U.S. laws, and protect the American economy and consumer health and safety. Responsibilities Lead, plan, and coordinate audits with other DHS/CBP offices and/or outside entities, exercising a high degree of autonomy and providing guidance to lower‑graded auditors. Review audit documentation and reports to ensure work products meet GAGAS, TRA standards, and policies. Present technical findings to diverse audiences and develop comprehensive written documents. Conduct research of import and export laws, trade policy, legal rulings, and case law and assemble information to develop significant audit findings. Perform risk‑assessment procedures, assess internal controls, and evaluate the sufficiency and appropriateness of audit evidence. Employ audit/analytical techniques, statistical sampling procedures, and identify universe and sample frames to project audit findings with an appropriate confidence level. Qualifications U.S. citizenship, primary U.S. residency for at least three of the last five years, and Selective Service registration for males born after 12/31/1959. Education: Bachelor’s degree in accounting, auditing, or a related field with at least 24 semester hours in accounting (including up to 6 hours of business law). Alternatively, a combination of at least four years of accounting experience and 24 semester hours in accounting or auditing courses. Experience: One year of specialized experience equivalent to GS‑13, performing complex audits of large national or multinational corporations, researching and applying import and export laws, and providing technical guidance and mentoring. Technical skills: Knowledge of GAGAS and GAAS, audit standards, statistical sampling, risk assessment, and audit documentation standards. Communication: Ability to develop clear, concise audit reports and present findings to a wide variety of audiences. EEO Statement CBP is an equal‑opportunity employer.
