The Naval Nuclear Laboratory's Valve Engineering unit is seeking a mechanical engineer to identify and incubate innovations in valve technology. As a member of the Valve Engineering innovation team, you will hunt opportunities to improve valve performance, reduce costs, reduce manufacturing span, reduce maintenance needs, and apply valve technologies in new ways to solve problems for the fleet. You will use a combination of design, analysis, and testing to rapidly develop these new technologies. You will combine a strong technical foundation with creative inspiration to help Valve Engineering scale up its programmatic impact. Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in engineering or science related field and 6 years of relevant experience; orMaster's degree from an accredited college or university in engineering or science related field and 4 years of relevant experience; or Currently or previously Shift Supervisor Part I qualified; orEDO qualified and 2 years EOOW qualified in the Nuclear Operations Program; or3 years SRE qualified and Water Instructor and Refueling Facility Area Refueling Engineer and Fuel and Barrier Shift Supervisor (ECF only); Previous experience with, or interest in design, analysis, and/or testing
• Interest in networking with other internal and external organizations to identify innovation opportunities
• Comfort with working on innovation projects with a strong element of the unknown
• Comfort with moving on from projects that are discovered to be low impact

The Naval Nuclear Laboratory is operated for the U.Department of Energy (DOE) by Fluor Marine Propulsion, LLC (FMP), a wholly owned subsidiary of Fluor Corporation.
