Bon Secours Mercy Health is seeking to hire a NP/PA for an inpatient orthopedics opportunity to work at Saint Mary’s Hospital in Richmond, Virginia. APC to work under the direct supervision of the orthopedic surgeon, to serve in the Emergency Department as the first responder to patients seeking emergency care when it is decided by the emergency physician to consult orthopedic services. The Physician Assistant/ Nurse Practitioner (PA/NP) will be contacted by the orthopedic surgeon to perform under his/her supervision for emergent patients. Under the direct supervision of the orthopedic surgeon, assists during surgery at the wound site by holding retractors, suturing, cutting, and tying, closing skin, performing surgical preps, handing instruments to surgeon, etc. Performs preoperative assessments and delivers postoperative care to orthopedic surgery patients. Assesses orthopedic surgery patients’ physical and psychosocial status by means of interview, health history, physical examination, and diagnostic tests. Interprets the data, develops, and implements therapeutic plans, and follows through on patient care. Provides education to orthopedic patients, their families and hospital staff. Assists orthopedic surgeon in various aspects of his/her provision of services including consults, management of patients on the floor, discharge paperwork, on-call responsibilities for the hospital and emergency department, and other as determined by surgeon.
Job Details:
- Fulltime Monday – Friday
- Practice Setting: Hospital Based
- Call Schedule: 7 days per month
- Hospital Credentialing: Bon Secours Saint Mary’s Hospital
- Average Patients per day: 15-20, ages 16 and above
- Patient Base: inpatient orthopedics and spine
- EMR: EPIC rounding and consults
- Typical Day: Inpatient ortho and spine rounding, discharge planning, medical management, and pain management.
- Mentorship Available: Ortho and spine surgeons.

The position is primarily located at Bon Secours St. Mary’s Hospital in historic Henrico County and just 10 minutes from the beautiful city of Richmond.
