Overview:
The Product Development Specialist reports to the Product Development Manager to bring new, industry-leading products to market. The ideal candidate should possess strong sewing skills, and the ability to turn concepts and ideas into prototypes for review. Communication skills are key when receiving, and giving feedback on specific products or operations. The Product Development Specialist will also assist in the creation of Tech Packs which include BOM's, BOL's, CAD files, and training material. The role of the Product Development Specialist is to provide support and capacity to the department. Flexibility, initiative, and accuracy are the keys to success in this role. The right candidate will have opportunities to travel for the purposes of training, sourcing, and networking.
Responsibilities:
The responsibilities and duties of this position are, but not limited to:
- Market research on new/competing product segments
- New product design implementation and mock-ups using concepts and parameters from the lead designer
- Apparel design experience would be a tremendous asset
- Experience working with hard nylons is a plus
- Work cooperatively and proactively with designers to refine working prototypes on several active projects
- Produce product samples for marketing, testers, influencers, and manufacturing partners
- Generate highly accurate CAD files to be used in the production of finished product
- Grading and scaling of multiple sizes
- Work with the cutting department to ensure all new products are cutting machine-compatible
- Coordinate internal and external product testing
- The vetting process for new product testers
- Communicating expectations to all product testers
- Compiling actionable data from field test reports
- Use predetermined product testing procedures to ensure material properties are within spec
- Provide feedback to production and marketing teams for labor and materials cost
- Provides training on new product
- Create detailed training materials and instructions for production employees
- Train other department employees on specs/features of new products as needed
- Help keep the Product Development area clean and organized
- Liaising among different departments, e.g. cutting, stuffing, quality, etc.;
- Working with managers to implement the company's policies and goals;
- Other duties as assigned
Minimum Position Qualifications:
- 40 hour/week availability
- Sewing experience
- Highly proficient sewer, with a desire/willingness to learn new techniques
- Possess strong analytical and problem-solving skills;
- Work in a fast-paced, rapidly growing environment;
- Ability to work independently and multi-task a variety of responsibilities;
- Have a positive attitude and be able to work with a variety of personalities;
- Excellent written and oral communication skills;
- Must be able to manage time appropriately.
Preferred Position Qualifications:
- Previous product development experience;
- Experience working in CAD programs
- Interest in Tactical/Firearms industry
