Attorney

Genius Talent has partnered with a leading municipal government in search of a City Attorney in the Greater Richmond area. In this role you will serve as the chief legal advisor to the City Council, City Manager, and other city departments, protecting the legal interests of the municipality. This role involves providing complex legal advice, representing the City in legal matters, and managing legal documentation and compliance.


Responsibilities:Provide oral and written legal opinions to City Council, administration, and departments on complex legal matters
Attend City Council, Board, and Commission meetings, offering legal guidance
Represent the City in complex legal cases, including state and federal court proceedings
Prepare, review, and approve legal documents, including contracts, ordinances, and policies
Research and apply laws, court decisions, and other legal authorities in legal opinions and briefs
Advise on real estate transactions and procurement compliance
Prepare and review legislation for General Assembly sessions
Supervise codifications of City Code
Manage and supervise support staff and department budget
Engage in local government organizations and participate in continuing education seminars


Requirements:Juris Doctor from an accredited law school
At least 5 years of legal experience, preferably in municipal law; managerial experience preferred
Active membership in the Virginia State Bar; ability to practice in federal and state courts
Strong legal research, communication, and litigation skills
Ability to handle complex legal matters and render immediate advice
Proficiency in legal procedures, regulations, and Roberts Rules of Order
Strong leadership, organizational, and time-management abilities
Ability to establish effective relationships with public officials and staff
