Job Description The Massachusetts Medical Society (MMS) is the statewide professional association for physicians and medical students, supporting 25,000 members. We are dedicated to educating and advocating for the physicians of Massachusetts and patients locally and nationally. A leadership voice in health care, the MMS contributes physician and patient perspectives to influence health-related legislation at the state and federal levels, works in support of public health, provides expert advice on physician practice management, and addresses issues of physician well-being. Under the auspices of NEJM Group, the MMS extends our mission globally by advancing medical knowledge from research to patient care through the New England Journal of Medicine, NEJM Evidence, NEJM AI, NEJM Catalyst, NEJM Journal Watch, and through our accredited and comprehensive continuing medical education programs. The world has changed, and so has the way we work. The MMS has adopted a flexible work model that allows most employees to choose where they work - at home, onsite in our Waltham or Boston office, or a combination of the two - based on their preferences and our business needs. Because what matters is the work we do, not where we do it. The Quality Assurance Tester will perform manual testing tasks as assigned by QA leads (functional testing, browser testing, and content verification), on projects for the New England Journal of Medicine, Knowledge Plus, Journal Watch, and other online products. Throughout a series of predefined releases; contribute to test case development and execution, and identify and log defects into the issue-tracking system. Assist in developing a QA Knowledge base by documenting product knowledge, and developing detailed prerequisites and back-end data conditions used to perform data integrity validation. RESPONSIBILITIES: Become familiar with quality-assurance concepts and types of testing, such as functional testing, regression testing, and performance testing. Successfully complete manual functional testing for multiple website components and functions, based on test cases and specifications provided. Develop a detailed understanding of how software defects are identified, reproduced, described, and documented in issue-tracking software such as JIRA. Develop an in-depth understanding of how to complete QA testing on multiple operating systems and web browsers. Gain experience working with a professional QA team on a complex software project and learn how QA fits into the overall Software Development Lifecycle. Required Experience Understanding of technology, particularly web technologies. Basic knowledge of HTML and CSS. Familiarity with basic web concepts and standard vocabulary of web pages; i.e.: font color, "center well", banners, URLs, tables, margins, uses the phrase "line-spacing" instead of "leading", etc. Understands how hardware (particularly monitors), operating systems, and browsers can affect the display of web pages. Manual QA testing experience preferred, but not required. Ability to read functional specs and develop test strategies from those specs. Experience taking verbal/written instructions and developing general test strategies Understands how to create screenshots on Windows and Mac Knowledge of cross-browser differences; at least some experience using IE, Firefox and Chrome. Experience with Safari is helpful, but not necessary. Knowledge of iOs and Android mobile device operating systems Strong attention to detail. Ability to think analytically and a desire to learn. Self-sufficientnt and pride of ownership. Good written and verbal communication skills, and ability to work well in a highly collaborative team environment WORK SCHEDULE The work hours are Monday - Friday, 8:30 - 4:30, however, the student can arrange a flexible schedule.
