**Job Description:**
- Administer radiation therapy as prescribed by the Radiation Oncologist.
- Interact with a variety of individuals, including patients with cancer, physicians, nurses, patients' families, and co-workers, requiring strong interpersonal communication skills.
- Be involved in the care process of all age groups, from newborns to geriatrics.
- Ease patient's fear and apprehension about radiation therapy.
- Set up patients properly for accurate delivery of radiation treatment.
- Explain to patients what to expect during treatment and ensure they understand how to facilitate accurate treatment delivery.
- Perform daily warm-up of the treatment machine and maintain a logbook. Report any variations from the parameters set by the physicist to the Senior Therapist.
- Check simulator for proper operation and report any issues to the Chief Radiation Therapist, maintaining proper logs.
- Properly position patients for simulation of treatment area using immobilization devices as needed.
- Conduct clear communication with patients on what to expect during simulations.
- Produce acceptable radiographs for simulation and safely tattoo the patient's treatment area when necessary.
- Photograph the patient's treatment area and face to include in their chart.
- Maintain audio and visual contact with patients at all times.
- Schedule patients for daily treatment and ensure treatment marks are maintained.
- Explain adverse reactions that may occur during the treatment course to patients.
- Notify RN or Radiation Oncologist of adverse reactions as necessary. Ensure the Radiation Oncologist sees the patient at least weekly.
- Verify weekly weight check and perform portal localization films once a week or as prescribed.
- Conduct weekly chart checks to ensure prescription adherence and record accuracy.
- Stock linen and necessary supplies in treatment and simulation rooms and inform the Chief Radiation Therapist of items to be ordered.
- Participate in performance improvement activities.
- Communicate effectively with physicians, nurses, patients, and fellow staff members.
- Assist in transporting hospital patients to the department and provide patient assistance as needed.
- Attend all required hospital and departmental in-service programs.
