**Description:**

**Job Summary:**
This role requires flexibility and adaptability to meet department needs. Responsibilities include providing safe, age-appropriate care by performing all exams as per department procedures. The position requires independent judgment and the ability to safely obtain quality diagnostic studies. Duties include performing a variety of technical procedures, setting up equipment for imaging services, and positioning patients for procedures. The Rad Tech will also act as a clinical coordinator and instructor for imaging students, provide evaluations, and deliver constructive criticism.

**Core Responsibilities and Essential Functions:**

**Patient Care:**
- Obtain complete clinical history and assess contraindicating conditions.
- Follow established procedures for administering contrast media.
- Ensure proper patient identification and the use of correct markers.
- Review radiographic images for quality and release patients after exams.
- Respond to emergencies and maintain life support equipment.
- Assist other technologists as needed.
- Evaluate situations to determine when physician intervention is necessary.
- Verify patient identifiers and clinical orders before procedures.
- Maintain patient privacy and comfort.
- Demonstrate competence in procedures, equipment use, and techniques appropriate to patient age.
- Organize schedule and priorities efficiently.
- Use critical thinking and seek clarification when needed.
- Understand and document pre-procedural verification and Time Out processes.
- Prep patients for procedures and demonstrate sterile techniques.
- Maintain competency in venipuncture.

**Equipment:**
- Adjust technique to provide low-dose ionizing radiation while maintaining image quality.
- Report malfunctioning equipment for timely correction.
- Clean and maintain equipment per infection control policy.
- Operate all radiographic equipment safely.

**Education and Communication:**
- Explain procedures to patients to reduce anxiety.
- Address questions and concerns, notify physicians as necessary.
- Participate in orientation and training of new employees.
- Provide preparatory instructions to patients.
- Ensure documentation is clear, concise, and uses precise terminology.
- Complete mandatory education without prompting.

**Quality Control:**
- Produce high-quality images with appropriate collimation and technique.
- Ensure equipment is operational before use.
- Send studies to PACS; handle image documentation appropriately.

**Operations:**
- Restock and maintain imaging services in an orderly condition.
- Assist in transporting and positioning patients.
- Perform patient charging activities promptly.
- Collaborate with team members to optimize departmental productivity.
- Maintain compliance with regulatory standards.
- Retrieve and manage images using PACS.
- Perform other duties as assigned and comply with all policies and standards.
