Position Specific Description

PWR Core Design and Safety Analyses Engineer Responsibilities:

  • Performs or oversees PWR core design and reload safety analyses including RSAC/core physics calculations, NDR calculations, LOCA and non-LOCA analyses.
  • Familiar with core reload process and analysis requirements.
  • Acts as a consultant to management on PWR core design, safety analyses, and plant operations issues.
  • Performs advanced engineering tasks or other special projects requiring original concepts, a high level of experience and expertise necessary for the operation of the nuclear units.
  • Works independently, performs engineering tasks with little or no precedence.
  • Initiates, evaluates, and/or dispositions Conditions Reports, as required.
  • Process vendor documents such as NSALs, Information Notices, Technical Bulletins, etc.
  • Performs 10 CFR 50.59 screening and evaluations.
  • Develop and improve automation tools for standardization and error-reduction.
  • Has the ability to apply nuclear industry standards and regulations to new situations.
  • Has management skill for facilitation of team actions for problem-solving including conflict resolution to ensure progress.


Highly Desired:

  • Nuclear Engineering degree.
  • Python or other object-oriented language.
  • Familiar with NRC regulations and requirements for safety analysis applications (UFSAR Chapter 14/15).


Job Overview

This job is responsible for developing technical recommendations to support complex nuclear projects and operations. Employees in this role perform advanced engineering activity and analysis that lead to the development of innovative concepts. Individuals participate in the development of new solutions involves the study of engineering principles, selection of areas for investigation, working through opportunities within scope, and communicating research findings. The successful candidate is responsible for interpreting, organizing, executing and coordinating assignments.

  • Provides technical consultation to management
  • Applies nuclear industry standards and regulations to solve new problems and address situations
  • Manages project teams toward solutions using leadership prowess, problem solving, and conflict resolution techniques
  • Represents supervisor interests and serves in a backup capacity when necessary
  • Serves as technical liaison within and outside business unit
  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned
