**Description:**
The Clinical Nurse in the Cardiothoracic ICU provides competent clinical nursing care consistent with professional standards. Responsible for coordinating and delivering patient care utilizing the nursing process in a hospital setting, reporting to the Nurse Manager/Director.
**Key Responsibilities Include:**
- **Education:** Identifies and meets learning needs; uses patient education materials; assesses readiness to learn.
- **Evaluation of Care:** Identifies expected patient outcomes; collaborates with interdisciplinary teams; promotes continuity of care.
- **Implementation:** Demonstrates competence in care of patients with complex problems; performs bedside point of care testing required; organizes and prioritizes care.
- **Leadership:** Develops professional growth goals; participates in unit goals and performance improvement; promotes cost-effective care.
- **Patient Assessment:** Recognizes data from complex situations for care priorities; addresses physical, psychosocial, education, and safety needs.
- **Planning:** Collaborates with patient/family for care plans; uses multidisciplinary resources; prioritizes tasks for complex patients.
- **Research:** Reads applicable journals and shares insights with staff.
