**Job Specialty:** Emergency Room
**Job Duration:** 13 Weeks
**Shift:** 12-hour Night Shift, 3 nights per week
**Guaranteed Hours:** 36 per week
**Experience:** One year of experience preferred; Nursing skills and knowledge base specific to specialty
**License:** State RN license or RN license from a participating state in the Nurse Licensure Compact (NLC)
**Certifications:**
- American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS)
- Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS)
- Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) or Emergency Nursing Pediatric Course (ENPC)
- NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) Certification
- Trauma Nursing Core Course (TNCC) Certification
**Must-Have:** Patient Care; Epic Systems competency
**Job Description:**
- Facilitate, communicate, and collaborate with the healthcare team and the patient/family to identify and meet the physical, emotional, and spiritual needs of the patient.
- Promote optimal health, well-being, and safety of the patient through the nursing process and in accordance with patient care standards, guidelines, and Nurse Practice Act.
- Demonstrate personal accountability for relationship-based care, organizational mission, and core values.
- Assess patient’s physical, psychosocial, cultural, and spiritual needs through observation, interview, and review of medical records & clinical data.
- Evaluate patient’s response and intervene to ensure optimal patient outcome.
- Develop and implement patient plan of care and observe outcomes in accordance with nursing standards and in collaboration with the interdisciplinary team.
- Demonstrate competency in a variety of therapeutic/diagnostic interventions including but not limited to IVs, incision/wound care, medication administration, catheterization, and specimen collections.
- Promote, advocate, and collaborate to protect health, safety, and rights of each patient.
- Provide patient/family education through assessment of learning readiness, needs, and ability. Evaluate effectiveness of teaching.
- Recognize the patient or designee as a full partner in providing compassionate and coordinated care based on respect for the patient’s preferences, values, and needs.
- Deliver relationship-based care with respect for cultural differences and diversity of human experience.
- Delegate to non-RN personnel per State Board of Nursing and hospital policy.
- Use time, personnel, equipment, and supplies effectively to provide high-quality, cost-effective patient care.
- Serve as a professional role model demonstrating ethical/legal/professional nursing process.
- Manage resources and patient flow by matching nursing competencies with individualized patient and unit needs.
- Use standards of care, hospital policies/procedures, and regulatory guidelines to guide practice.
- Function effectively within nursing and inter-professional teams, fostering open communication, mutual respect, and shared decision-making to achieve quality patient care.
- Precept/mentor new staff or nursing students as needed.
- Seek out learning opportunities and continuing education.
- Maintain professional records providing evidence of competency and lifelong learning.
- Evaluate one’s own integrity and nursing practice in relation to professional practice standards and guidelines, relevant statutes, rules, and regulations.
- Take action to achieve goals identified during the evaluation process.
- Be flexible to floating, which may be required to any location within sixty (60) miles of the original assignment or identified float zone. Floating may include duties outside of original assignment job requirements in accordance with policy.
