Summary:
The Pharmacy Buyer is responsible for purchasing of pharmaceuticals within the inpatient pharmacy, as well as day-to-day operations of the storeroom. The scope shall include responsibility for pharmacy purchasing, maintaining stock of inpatient medications, procurement of non-formulary items, controlled substances and oversight of roles and responsibilities of technicians working in the storeroom. Exemplifies the Rush mission, vision and values and acts in accordance with Rush policies and procedures.

Required Job Qualifications:
• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Two years of relevant experience.
• Licensed and PTCB certified pharmacy technician.
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, written communication and interpersonal skills.
• Flexible with work schedule.
• Dependable attendance and job performance.
• Active participation in pharmacy professional or peer organizations

Preferred Job Qualifications:
• Associate or Bachelor's degree.

Responsibilities:
1. Coordinates all supply chain processes for purchasing and receiving pharmaceuticals.
2. Oversees monthly pharmacy storeroom medication expenses and tracking items with increased expenses.
3. Maintains all systems for Group Purchasing Organization in coordination with the Corporate Director of Pharmacy.
4. Supervises storeroom staff and functions related to medication stocking, ordering, and delivery.
5. Provides monthly reports of contract compliance and tracking of top 100 drug purchases.
6. Maintains pharmacy purchasing systems including Cardinal.com and RxWorks.
7. Maintains RxWorks medication database.
8. Coordinates purchasing of medications on the formulary, including adjusting par levels and finding suitable alternatives in times of drug shortages.
9. Coordinates procurement of non-formulary items in collaboration with the Associate Director of Clinical Services.
10. Evaluates alternative medication dosage forms for cost-savings and coordinate interchange of new alternative medications, as needed.
11. Evaluates medication waste for formulary removal in collaboration with Associate Director, Clinical Services.
12. Meets with vendor representatives as needed for contract and product information.
13. Participate in Pyxis inventory optimization, including the need to alter drug inventory levels versus a one-time increase in inventory purchased.
14. Proactively manage stock outs with regard to human factors (i.e. not signing out inventory) versus the need to optimize inventory levels.
15. Participate in weekly Drug Shortage Meeting including a classification of shortage items, presentation of current Pyxis and carousel counts, and alternative dosage forms available for purchase.
16. Coordinate operational procurement and workflow changes.
