We seek a motivated physician-investigator interested in a career in pediatric hospital medicine research in an academic setting. As a team, we strive to recruit, support, and grow talented people from diverse backgrounds with the aim to create a work environment that embraces diversity, fosters inclusiveness, and treats everyone with respect. We have identified needs in hospital-based research programs in translational, clinical, health services, and implementation science research. This could include hospital-based researchers with expertise in qualitative or quantitative methods.

The Division of Hospital Medicine includes one of the largest groups of pediatric hospital medicine researchers in the country with primary research faculty members partnering with clinical faculty to publish ~100 peer-reviewed manuscripts and receive >$500,000 in grant funding in the most recent fiscal year. The Division has a proven track record of K-award or equivalent career-development funding. Individualized career development is provided through mentoring within the Division of Hospital Medicine and across the institution. Opportunities for collaboration are fostered through weekly divisional research meetings as well as other collaborative research groups throughout the Department of Pediatrics and with the neighboring University of Cincinnati. The candidate would spend the majority of her/his time in research with the expectation of independent funding within 2-3 years of hire (e.g. career development award).

Cincinnati Children's Hospital Medical Center is a leading medical research and teaching hospital, currently ranked the #1 pediatric hospital in the nation, according to the US News & World Report, and among the top 3 in NIH funding. Cincinnati Children's has nearly 700 licensed beds and more than 170,000 Emergency Department visits and 33,000 admissions per year. The Division of Hospital Medicine at Cincinnati Children's has a successful history of quality improvement, translating evidence into practice, family-centered care, and leadership in education and research, including a robust hospital medicine fellowship program. Dr. Samir S. Shah leads the division, which consists of over 60 faculty and staff physicians and 9 fellows. We currently provide care through the Hospital Medicine Services at 2 campuses as well as consultation and co-management for surgical inpatients through the Hospital Medicine Surgical Service and for adults through the Hospital Medicine Adult Care Service.

Formal research training, including a Master's of Science degree in Epidemiology or comparable degree attained (or in progress with completion prior to or shortly after hire) is required. Candidates should have a strong track record of scholarly productivity. The additional content expertise in common diseases that result in hospitalizations for children and/or problems encountered by hospitalized children is preferred. Experience working clinically as a pediatric hospitalist, teaching medical school students and resident trainees, and leading quality improvement projects are not required but are differentiating factors.

Additional requirements include an MD or DO, status as board-certified or board-eligible in Pediatrics, and potential for licensure in the State of Ohio. Pediatric Hospital Medicine board certification or eligibility is a differentiating factor.
