Position Overview:
As a Certified Medical Coder at OrthoArkansas, you play an essential role in the accuracy and efficiency of our billing processes. Responsible for reviewing clinical documentation, assigning correct billing and diagnostic codes, and ensuring proper reimbursement, you'll work closely with providers, insurance collectors, and other team members to optimize revenue cycles and resolve any coding issues. This position demands a strong attention to detail, knowledge of orthopedic procedures, and excellent communication skills to support the clinic's operational and financial goals.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Daily Coding and Billing Tasks:
- Accurately code and enter clinical, hospital, and surgical charges for assigned physicians.
- Review and update data in the practice management system, ensuring accuracy and completeness of information.
- Collaborate with the pre-certification team and financial counselors, providing CPT and ICD-10 codes for upcoming procedures.
2. Ongoing Documentation and Process Management:
- Maintain a coding spreadsheet to track charges and ensure completeness of all entries.
- Create new patient charts and assist with urgent (STAT) coding requirements.
- Review denied procedures for potential appeal, working with collectors to resolve any coding-related denials.
Qualifications:
- Education and Experience:
- High school diploma or GED required.
- Minimum of 2 years of experience in physician coding and billing, with a focus on orthopedic procedures.
- Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:
- Certified Professional Coder (CPC) credential through AAPC required.
- Skills and Abilities:
- Strong understanding of CPT and ICD-10 codes specific to orthopedic procedures and diagnoses.
- Proficiency in medical terminology and relevant software applications.
- Excellent communication skills for interacting professionally with physicians, collectors, and other stakeholders.
Software Skills:
- Proficiency in practice management systems and coding software.
Additional Details:
- Performance Expectations: Maintain a coding accuracy rate of 95% with a 2-3 day turnaround time on all coding tasks.
