OB Technician

Job Description
OB Technicians are responsible for assisting in the provision of direct and indirect patient care services. OB Technicians use experience in sterile technique to assist in OB/GYN surgical procedures.

Department: Labor & Delivery

Hours: 36 hours per week, weekend and holiday rotation

Requirement: Active CNA in the State of IL

Pay based on applicable experience; starting at $17.79

Responsibilities
Assists other care team members with direct and/or non-direct patient care, including, but not limited to: Delivering & picking up patient trays. Emptying trash & linen receptacles. Clerical duties, such as: completing data collection for birth certificates, ensuring data is completed accurately and submitted to the State in a timely manner; answering phones, patient intercoms, liaison among patient, family & staff members. Performs computer based functions including admission, discharge & processing patient charges when appropriate., Assists under the direction of the Registered Nurse, Charge Nurse, or Patient Care Leader as follows: Assumes the surgical scrub role in Cesarean section & assists with set up of sterile instruments for vaginal deliveries. Prepares instruments pre- and post-procedures, using principles of asepsis and disinfection. Assists with procedure/case clean-up and room turnover in accordance with policies and procedures. Maintains inventory of supplies & equipment for the patient care areas, including Cesarean section OR. Handles, identifies & delivers all specimens and cultures. Performs collection of Neonatal Metabolic, Hearing and Critical Congenital Heart Disease screenings in Nursery. Assists with procedures in accordance with policies, procedures and physician orders. Observes well newborns in the nursery under the direct supervision of an RN., Assist under the direction of the RN, Charge Nurse, or Pt Care Leader as follows: Assume the surgical scrub role in Cesarean section & assist with set up of sterile instruments for vaginal deliveries. Prepare instruments pre-and post-procedures, using principles of asepsis and disinfection., Completes routine daily housekeeping of occupied patient rooms and common areas including, but not limited to desks, phones, utility rooms, conference/break rooms, staff bathrooms & lounge areas. Performs terminal & periodic cleaning per schedules., Handle, identify & deliver all specimens and cultures, Maintain/stock inventory of supplies & equipment for the patient care areas, including Cesarean section OR., Perform collection of Neonatal Metabolic, Hearing and Critical Congenital Heart Disease screenings in Nursery., Prepares rooms for new admissions. Assists in the patient discharge process (i.e. assembling personal belongings, escorting to vehicle, etc.), Provides documents and reports age-appropriate care delivered to patients under the direct supervision of the Registered Nurse, Charge Nurse, or Patient Care Leader. (i.e., vital signs, I&O, weights), Serves as customer service representative and a liaison among patient, family, & staff members., Support relationship-based care by providing compassionate, holistic care to patients, family, and co-workers and promoting a safe, caring, and healing environment.

Requirements:
High School (Required)

BLS or CPR certification within 90 days of hire. - Sarah Bush Lincoln, CNA or completion of 1st semester of RN Program - Sarah Bush Lincoln
