Summary

As a Youth Specialist with Youth Emergency Shelter, you will be actively involved in the day to day lives of youth ages 11-20, providing supervision of all youth activities to promote social, emotional, and intellectual development. This involves the oversight of youth daily routines to ensure that youth needs are met while maintaining safety and promoting wellbeing.

This position demonstrates commitment to the mission, vision and values of the agency by engaging in respectful, cooperative relationships with customers (i.e., clients, employees and external stakeholders); being accountable for providing services and ensuring safety to customers while empowering customers in achieving the agency's mission.

Primary Responsibilities:

* Supervise, guide and role model with youth regarding their daily activities, in accordance with the daily program schedule. Activities include, but are not limited to hygiene procedures, chores, recreational activities, therapeutic and life skills groups, educational requirements, outings, and employment.
* Track and documentation of youth behavior and participation in database, communication logs, critical incident reports to Document youth behavior and participation in database, communication logs, critical incident reports, etc.
* Provide input and implement individual youth treatment plans in daily activities.
* Communicate with other members of the program, including therapists, case managers, lead youth specialists, campus supervisors, etc., regarding youth needs and concerns.
* Supervise and/or administer medications and complete documentation.
* Transport and accompany youth on appointments and/or outings.
* Ensure the general security, maintenance and cleanliness of the facility, equipment and supplies; reporting any necessary campus or building repairs and issues as needed.
* Assist with answering 24/7 Helpline for referrals into the shelter.
* Complete phone screens and intake assessments.
* Complete 40 hours of professional development annually.
* Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

* High School diploma or GED.
* Minimum of one-year experience working with at-risk youth or adolescents displaying emotional/ behavioral challenges.
* Completion of at least 60 hours of college training with major course work in social sciences is preferred.
* Class E license (or must obtain within 30 days of hire.)
* Must be 21 years of age or older.

Job Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

* Demonstrated ability to utilize strength-based, crisis intervention and de-escalatiion .
* Basic knowledge of funders and their requirements
* Understanding of at-risk youth client population.
* Ability to effectively instruct clients and oversee their daily activities.
* Ability to read, interpret, and implement agency and program documents, including procedure manuals, treatment plans, etc.
* Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
* Interpersonal skills with the ability to collaborate with colleagues, community partners, families, etc.
* Computer skills: Microsoft Word and Outlook, and ETO database software.
* The physical requirements of this job include sitting, standing, walking, and climbing stairs on a regular basis, lifting up to 50lbs, pulling and/or pushing on occasion.
* Work Environment: Most of the work for this position is performed under normal office conditions.
