Position Summary/objective:

The Research Associate II will be responsible for performing all approved laboratory procedures in assigned areas of CLIA/CAP licensure and will participate in the development and optimization of clinical in vitro molecular assays at Immatics US Inc.

Essential functions:

  • Train on protocols of molecular techniques such as nucleic acid extractions from clinical specimens (fresh, frozen, FFPE), Reverse transcription reactions and high complexity qPCR assays (both single plex and multiplex), dPCR assays, Luminex assays, Microtomy, Microscopy, dPCR assays and carry out immunohistochemistry using paraffin tissue sections. A proper documentation of these procedures is essential.
  • Maintain compliance with CLIA and CAP regulations.
  • Demonstrate appropriate use, care, and maintenance of all equipment in the lab.
  • Evaluate reagents for assay development and reagent stability.
  • Responsible for placement and organization of supplies, etc. in appropriate locations or storage bins within the lab.

  • Responsible for accurate documentation of experimental work, data analysis and results.
  • Attend meetings to ensure an understanding of procedures and forms for the collection, processing, and storage of clinical research specimens.
  • Prepare/revise/review SOPs, Work instructions, and Lab Manuals.
  • Participate in reviewing study plans, research reports and other R&D related aspects.
  • Identify problems, communicate them to the team members.
  • Assist in the planning and execution of verification and validation experiments.
  • Assist in training of new personnel and review of documents.

Secondary functions:

  • Attend organizational meetings.
  • Assist in CLIA/CAP inspection activities.
  • Attend clinical laboratory related continuing education webinars/ courses.
  • Other duties as assigned.
  • Must be willing and able to learn and conduct additional methods and techniques when necessary.
  • Keep work areas and equipment clean and orderly.

  • Strong knowledge of molecular biology fundamentals, Isolation and Purification if DNA/RNA, sequencing, cloning, protein purification/isolation, cytokine testing.

Work environment:

This position works in a typical office and/or clinical lab environment with moderate noise levels and uses phone, computer, office equipment and supplies on a regular basis. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally exposed to moving mechanical parts, fumes or airborne particles, pathogens and toxic or caustic chemicals. The employee is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, risk of electrical shock, sharps, or cuts, while performing tests.

  • Hearing - the ability to hear, understand, and distinguish speech and/or other sounds one-on-one, group or conference, telephone, and other sounds.
  • Keyboarding - entering data or text into a computer or other machine by means of a keyboard. Devices include a traditional keyboard, 10 key-pad, touch screens and others.
  • Lifting - raising or lowering an object (up to 25 lbs) from one level to another (includes upward pulling). Carrying is to transport an object - usually by holding it in the hands or arms but may occur on the shoulder.
  • Near Visual Acuity - clarity of vision at approximately 20 inches or less (working with small objects, reading small print, including the use of computers).
  • Pushing - Exerting force upon an object so that the object moves away from the object.
  • Pulling - Exerting force upon an object so that the object moves toward the force.
  • Sitting - remaining in a sitting position for at least 50% of the time.
  • Standing/Walking - remain on one's feet in an upright position at a workstation.
  • Stooping - occasional bending the body downward and forward by bending the spine at the waist - requiring full use of the lower extremities and back muscles.

Required education and experience.

  • B. S in Biology or related scientific discipline. Experience may be able to substitute for degree.
  • Minimum two years of academic or industry experience.

Preferred education and experience

  • Experience in CLIA/CAP lab is a plus.
  • ASCP certification is a plus.

Additional eligibility requirements:

  • Upon hiring, the personnel are expected to successfully complete the technical competency evaluation within the introductory evaluation period for continued employment at Immatics.
