Instrumentation Technician

Highly skilled technical work in the repair, modification, replacement and calibration of pneumatic, hydraulic, magnetic, and electronic instrument transmitters, receivers, totalizers and recorders in water, wastewater treatment and re-pump stations. Responsible for the maintenance and repair of computer-based, electronically-controlled instrumentation systems. Work includes application of the principals and techniques of advanced state of the art instrumentation, process control circuitry, programmable micro-processors, Variable Frequency Drives (VFD) controls, laboratory instrumentation and advanced analog and digital circuitry. Considerable independent judgment will be exercised within the accepted technical standard. Work is reviewed through conferences and examination of reports and equipment performance.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Associate's Degree with major coursework in Mathematics, Physics or Instrument/Controls Technology; minimum of one (1) year of experience in highly automated electronics instrumentation installation OR successful completion of the Palm Beach County WUD-approved Instrumentation Technician Student Internship Program in collaboration with Palm Beach State College. Equivalency: Graduation from high school or an equivalent recognized certification AND three (3) years of related experience.

PREFERENCE FOR EXPERIENCE IN/WITH: Programmable Logic Controls (PLC); using Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) or Maximo. Also desirable: Bachelor's Degree in Electrical/Electronic Engineering; apprenticeship in the utilities/chemical industry (must specify on application).

Must be able to lift 50 pounds. Hearing Loss Test required for selected candidate.
