Position Overview: As an Inpatient Facility Medical Coder, you will review medical records and assign accurate codes for diagnoses and procedures. You will play a crucial role in ensuring compliance and accuracy while supporting the overall quality of patient care through effective coding practices.

Compensation: Our client offers a competitive compensation package ranging from $56,700 to $66,560, commensurate with your experience, education, certifications, and skill set. This reflects a strong commitment to attracting top-tier talent for this pivotal role.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Coding Accuracy:
    • Review medical records to assign accurate codes for diagnoses and procedures.
    • Utilize coding software (e.g., Code Base Charge Trigger system, OPTUM 360 EncoderPRO) and electronic medical records systems (EpicCare).
  • Classification and Sequencing:
    • Identify and assign principal diagnoses and procedures, ensuring proper classification and sequencing (APC, MS-DRG, APR-DRG).
    • Perform chart analysis to ensure completeness, accuracy, and compliance with CMS guidelines.
  • Regulatory Compliance:
    • Stay current on coding regulations, industry trends, and coding publications (ICD-10 guidelines, Coding Clinic, CPT Assistant).
    • Communicate with physicians to clarify diagnoses and procedures as needed.
  • Quality Standards:
    • Meet department standards for coding accuracy and productivity (95%+).
    • Maintain confidentiality and foster strong working relationships with staff.

Qualifications:
  • Minimum of five (5) years of experience in medical coding, with four (4) years specifically in inpatient facility coding.
  • Must possess one of the following certifications:
    • Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA)
    • Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT)
    • Certified Coding Specialist (CCS)

Desired Skills: (Not Required)
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Health Information Management.
  • Experience in medical record audits and data analysis.
  • Knowledge of CMS HCC Risk Adjustment coding.

Technical Skills:
  • Advanced knowledge of ICD-10-CM, ICD-10-PCS, HCPCS/CPT, and government regulations regarding coding.
  • Strong understanding of medical terminology, disease processes, diagnostic, and surgical procedures.
  • Proficiency in EMR systems and coding software.
