Job Summary:

Perform a wide variety of custodial duties in and around the College facilities. Clean and sanitize multiple areas of the campus, empty trash and dispose of waste. Work to meet college expectations by maintaining a high level of cleanliness and sanitation in designated areas of the College campus.

Major Areas of Responsibility:

* Sweep, vacuum, mop floors and stairs, clean walls and ceilings.
* Empty trash and recycling materials to designated collection receptacles.
* Clean and disinfect restrooms, showers, and locker rooms, replace paper and soap products in restrooms, clean mirrors, scrub sinks and toilets.
* Follow prescribed health and safety regulations and policies.
* Assist in the completion of daily work assignments in the absence of other custodians.
* Assist in providing summer cleaning of buildings which includes lifting and removing furniture from rooms, cleaning floors and blinds, washing walls, doors, and furniture.
* Report on maintenance issues and safety concerns.
* Performs minor repairs and responds to emergency calls for service.
* Assist with other general maintenance tasks assigned by the Maintenance Supervisor or the Vice President for Facilities.

Skills, Knowledge and Abilities:

* Willingness to be trained and ability to follow written and verbal instructions.
* Experience with the safe handling and storage of industrial cleaning solutions.
* Ability to work well with individuals with diverse backgrounds.
* Ability to work independently to perform assigned duties, follow a work schedule, and complete assigned tasks in the allotted time.

Working Conditions:

Custodians perform routine janitorial duties in classrooms, restrooms, residence hall spaces, offices, and conference rooms. The custodians use a variety of caustic chemicals and motorized equipment associated with routine cleaning, carpet, and floor care. Sustained physical effort may be required for the completion of some custodial responsibilities.

Physical Requirements:

* Ability to bend, stoop, reach, stand, lift, and move from one area of the building to another on a regular basis.
* Ability to climb steps.
* Strength and dexterity required to operate all housekeeping equipment.
* Ability to work around moving mechanical parts and machine noise.
* Ability to work safely with various cleaning chemicals.
* Adequate hearing and verbal abilities to understand oral and written instructions and to understand and follow basic safety precautions regarding housekeeping functions.
* Ability to perform physical tasks such as lifting and moving up to 50 lbs.
* A list of detailed physical requirements is available upon request.

Education and Experience:

* High School diploma or G.E.D. preferred.
* One year of previous custodial experience preferred.
* Pre-employment background investigation is required.
