Job Description
Purpose:
Under the general supervision of the General Supervisor/Coordinating Manager, performs general clerical tasks to support the medical and nursing staff of the department. Major tasks and responsibilities are as follows:
Specific Duties and Responsibilities:
• Register patients in the EPIC system using the appropriate insurance codes and financial class.
• Conduct comprehensive interview of patients to complete demographic data and determine payer for emergency services (to include front and back copy of insurance card).
• Update, verify and correct patient data using proper documentation in the Soarian system.
• Contact consultants as directed by the Emergency Department's Medical Doctor/Physician Assistant. Follow through to ensure consultant arrives promptly and maintain tracking log.
• Scan and review all appropriate documents utilizing EPIC Media Manager.
• Treat all patients in a courteous and respectful manner, and with special regard to adhering to the Privacy Act as part of the HIPAA law.
• Respond to patients' inquiries and relay messages to the Patient Representative or other personnel as appropriate.
• Schedule follow-up care appointments according to H +H policy and procedures and Manage Care guidelines.
• Perform other tasks assigned by the Senior Associate Director, Assistant Director, Coordinating Manager, and other clinical staff.
Minimum Qualifications
1. A high school diploma or its educational equivalent; and
2. Six (6) months of full-time satisfactory clerical experience and/or experience interacting with the public, such as processing sales; taking, processing, and delivering orders; obtaining and dispensing information; listening to and resolving customers concerns, problems, and complaints; and/or performing related customer service activities.
