Position Description

The Mental Health Program Coordinator is responsible for developing, maintaining, and supervising the delivery of mental health services to the Western South Dakota Juveniles Services Center detainees and the Pennington County Jail inmates. The Mental Health Program Coordinator directs and trains mental health counselors to provide quality and professional mental health services.

The Mental Health Program Coordinator will operate with broad decision-making authority and autonomy under the direction of the Sheriff's Office goals and philosophies. This position works closely in collaboration and under the direction of the Jail Commander and is an essential part of the leadership team.

The Mental Health Program Coordinator typically works daytime hours Monday through Friday and will be available for on-call assistance. Hours during the workweek may vary to accommodate site visits, stakeholder meetings, and implementation efforts.

Position Functions

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

* Provide both direct and indirect clinical supervision for all counseling staff including selection, scheduling, assigning work, enforcing policy to include disciplinary action, and conducting performance reviews.
* Ensure fidelity of evidence-based practices for all levels of treatment care.
* Ensure staff development through various training opportunities.
* Maintain compliance with accreditation standards, existing contracts, and grants.
* Provide on-call assistance.
* Participate in developing, implementing, and enforcing policy.
* Ensure applicable licensure and certifications are maintained and reviewed.
* Attend meetings and trainings as required.
* Perform related duties as assigned by supervisor.
* Maintain compliance with all county policies and procedures.

Qualifications

Education and/or Experience Required:

* Master's Degree in human services or related field.
* A minimum of 5 years of demonstrated experience in the mental health field or equivalent.
* Preference given to those with supervisory experience.
* Proficient computer skills including the ability to extract statistical data, prepare professional presentations, and knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite.
* Possession of or ability to readily obtain a valid South Dakota Driver's License within 90 days of moving to South Dakota.

Working Environment:

* The work is typically performed in a secure correctional facility during daytime hours with on-call availability.
* This position will require close interactions with inmates and detainees and movement between juvenile and adult correctional settings with exposure to inmate/detainee population.

Physical Requirements:

* Ability to safely and successfully perform the essential job functions consistent with the ADA, FMLA, and other federal, state and local standards, including meeting qualitative and quantitative productivity standards.
* Ability to maintain regular, punctual attendance consistent with the ADA, FMLA, and other federal, state and local standards.
* This position frequently remains stationary for long periods of time and needs to occasionally move about inside the office to access file cabinets, office machinery, etc.
* Constantly operates a computer and other office productivity machinery such as a calculator, copy machine and printer.
* Must be able to move up to 20 pounds unassisted, and move 40 pounds with assistance.
* Must be able to communicate clearly and effectively on telephone, in-person and in writing.
* Ability to stoop, kneel, crouch, stand, climb stairs, walk and sit.
