Job Overview: Under the supervision of the RN, the Patient Care Technician (PCT) performs various care activities and related services necessary in caring for the personal needs, comfort and safety of a specific patient population (ANA Standards of Delegation, 2004). The employee must be able to successfully complete job specific orientation, competencies, and meet/exceed standards as identified in the criteria based performance appraisal.#PCTs must demonstrate awareness of patients# rights in all aspects of patient care and report#issues to the appropriate person. The PCT demonstrates leadership through coordination of unit equipment and activities. Communicates to the RN pertinent findings or observations noted while providing patient care and comfort.#Assist professional staff with basic life support principles.# Unit Description: This 43 private bed plus suite unit provides care for surgical/medical patients, with an emphasis on the post-operative patient. The staff on Surgical Medical Care Center (SMCC) provides care to a wide variety of patients including trauma patients, post-operative patients, genito-urinary procedures, head and neck cases, bariatric surgical procedures and multiple medical conditions. SMCC is recognized for its teamwork and dedication to quality care and patient safety.# SMCC is sought after by Schools of Nursing for the wide variety of learning experiences, teamwork, patient population, knowledge of complex wound management, and nursing expertise.# Required: Certifications/Licenses/Education: Basic Life Support: Health Care Provider, within six months of hire. Completion of a high school education or equivalent (GED) preferred# Successfully complete PCT classes as required by care center/unit. # #
