Assistant or Associate Professor, Doctor of Medical Science Bridge Program

Indianapolis, United States Butler University IN Full time

Faculty Position-Doctor of Medical Science Bridge Program

Department of Medical Science

The Doctor of Medical Science Bridge (DMS Bridge) Program within the Department of Medical Science in the College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences at Butler University invites applications for a full time (12 month), continually renewable, non-tenure-track faculty position with faculty rank depending on qualifications at either the assistant or associate professor level. This faculty appointment has an anticipated start date of early Fall 2024.

Launched in summer 2021, the Butler DMS Bridge Program is designed exclusively for new PAs who have graduated within the past six months from an ARC-PA accredited program and are seeking a Doctor of Medical Science degree. The cohort-style program brings clinically focused students together from across the country for an engaging and accelerated, two-semester curriculum delivered entirely online. The first semester of the program includes full-time seven-week didactic courses focused on Biostatistics, Research Design, and Issues in Clinical Practice, followed by a semester-long Capstone Project in which students develop a novel research proposal firmly grounded in biostatistics and research design.

Two of Butler's key strategic priorities are "to create an intentionally diverse, inclusive, and equitable campus community," and to "build a culture of empowerment, engagement and accountability." We seek candidates whose research, teaching, and/or life experiences have prepared them to contribute to engagement with, and inclusion of, a diverse collection of students, faculty, and staff.

Position summary:

The candidate selected for this position will engage in teaching both seven-week courses and the program's Capstone course. The program's courses are offered in a hybrid model which includes weekly synchronous sessions for the seven-week courses and regular meetings with students throughout the development of their Capstone. Program faculty are expected to contribute to building a dynamic and inclusive learning environment for diverse groups of students.

Faculty will assist in all aspects of the program including recruitment, admissions, assessment, and the development, delivery, and evaluation of the curriculum. The faculty will engage in scholarship and service activities consistent with the Department of Medical Science and the College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences' requirements. Program faculty are also encouraged to be actively involved with relevant professional organizations at the state and national levels.

Candidates who prefer to reside in locations remote to Indianapolis will be considered. Please note, due to the varied nature of states' legal and administrative requirements, Butler University may not be able to offer remote employment to candidates in all states. Interested candidates are encouraged to contact DMS Bridge Program Director Cody Sasek, PhD, PA-C at csasek@butler.edu for further clarification.

Key position responsibilities include:

* Engage in effective teaching, service, and scholarship within a collaborative online environment
* Ensure student learning outcomes are met while implementing best educational practices in teaching and mentoring
* Participate in and maintain robust assessment for course, curriculum, and program improvement
* Engage in program recruitment activities
* Identify and pursue opportunities to enhance public relations of the DMS Bridge Program
* Support diversity, equity, and inclusion in all program activities
* Foster curricular and instructional approaches that recognize differences in individual learning, encourage problem-solving, and facilitate the acquisition of competencies and skills in an efficient and effective manner
* Participate in university, college, department, and program committees and other duties as assigned

Minimum qualifications:

* Physician assistant/associate with an earned doctoral degree
* Graduate of an ARC-PA accredited program
* Hold NCCPA board certification or emeritus status
* Be eligible for or hold active licensure as a PA
* Have the requisite knowledge and skills to effectively teach in the online DMS Bridge program
* Demonstrated commitment to promoting diversity, equity, and inclusion
* A commitment to building a dynamic and innovative learning environment

Preferred qualifications:

* Prior full-time appointment teaching in a PA program
* Additional higher education teaching experience
* Previous development, delivery, and management of online education
* Experience utilizing learning management systems, such as Canvas
* At least 3 years clinical experience as a PA
* Experience in PA leadership, scholarship, and advocacy

Application:

The priority application deadline for this position is June 14, 2024. Application review will begin following the priority deadline and will continue until the position is filled. Salary and rank will be commensurate with experience and educational credentials. The successful candidate must satisfactorily pass a background check. Preferred start date early Fall 2024.

Interested applicants should address the following to Brenda Quincy PhD, PA-C, DMS-Bridge Search Committee Chair:

* Cover letter summarizing interest in this position, and describing how they meet the position's minimum and preferred qualifications
* Detailed curriculum vitae
* Statement of teaching philosophy (no more than one page)
* Statement describing experience with research and mentoring students in research
* Names, addresses, titles, and contact information of three professional references
