The Inpatient Shift Supervisor provides supervision and support for Behavioral Health Techs (BHTs). Collaborates with the Treatment Team to oversee various administrative and clinical activities supporting running a safe and therapeutic milieu.

Primary Responsibilities:

Hiring and Supervision

* Supervise BHTs in their work including but not limited to training, coaching, evaluating and disciplining with regard to:
* Completion of assigned tasks and associated paperwork
* The use clinical skills during client interactions and documentation
* Professional communication
* The use of Credible and email
* Additional tasks as assigned to the Behavioral health tech
* Meeting all expectations otherwise not specified.


* Provide regular individual supervisions with BHTs.
* Document and keep confidential records of supervisions and other significant interactions (i.e., issuing disciplinary actions, presenting performance appraisals).
* Provide ongoing individual training and coaching as needed with regard to specific staff performance, areas of improvement and training goals. Take the lead in ensuring newly hired BHTs are oriented to the team.
* In collaboration with unit leadership, participate in interviews for Behavioral Health Techs.
* Complete assigned BHT performance appraisals within agency standards and timelines
* Promote the enhancement of positive staff morale by facilitating a timely response to concerns, ensuring respectful and professional internal communications, facilitate team building, and providing opportunities for staff recognition.

Unit and Milieu Staffing

* Conduct ongoing assessment of milieu acuity and client risk, collaborating promptly with staff as needed to ensure effective de-escalation and use of least restrictive alternatives up to seclusion and restraint.
* Collaborate with the treatment team to organize physical interventions with clients as needed, including assembling staff, directing actions, and ensuring the safety of staff and clients. Participate in physical interventions as needed. Facilitate post-incident debriefings.
* Ensure adequate staffing per shift according to the appropriate protocol, including additional staff based on client individual needs. Follow the established protocol for determining additional staffing.
* Oversee client admissions from initial intake to client arrival, collaborating with staff and outside agencies as needed to ensure admission criteria are met, all required documentation is completed, all appropriate policies and procedures are followed and all precautions are taken for the health and safety of clients and staff.
* Ensure therapeutic programming is conducted by applicable team members. Work with Inpatient Manager and Director on any needed changes in daily schedule.
* Facilitate Pass Down with Nurse at every shift change. Provide relevant client and milieu information (i.e., clinical, safety, administrative) to the oncoming shift.
* Review treatment team notes, communicate, and follow up on special assignments and treatment plan information as indicated by the treatment team. Update all relevant communications.

Minimum Qualifications:

EDUCATION: High School Diploma or GED

EXPERIENCE: Experienced (minimum two years of job-related experience)

Valid Washington Food Handler card

LICENSURE: Agency Affiliated Counselor Registration (can be obtained after hire)

Must be fully vaccinated against COVID-19

Preferred Qualifications:

EDUCATION: Bachelor's Degree in Psychology, Social Services or a behavioral health field

EXPERIENCE: Specialist (minimum five years of job-related experience)

Relevant experience working with clients with severe and persistent mental illness.

Capacity to work well with children and families.

Mental/Physical Requirements:

* Ability to maintain audio and visual observation at all times.
* Ability to stand and be mobile for long periods.
* Ability to bend, twist, reach, hold and lift as needed to successfully evade and participate in protective holds against client weight (40 -250lbs).
* Ability to lift and carry items up to 50 pounds.
* Ability to remain calm and utilize safety training in potentially assaultive client interactions.
* Ability to move quickly and confidently to assist or intervene in potentially stressful situations.
* Successful completion of safety training, which includes demonstrating the ability to: maintain balance, torso twist, forward bend, pivot, sidestep, forward and backward step, crouch, move to secure limb, knee touch to ground, kneel, get up from floor sitting or kneeling position.
