Position Summary

TAMKO Building Products, Inc. is seeking a Plant Support Technician at our Ennis, Texas facility. This temporary position ends 08/31/2024.

Essential Job Functions

  • Reports directly to the Production Superintendent but may be assigned to support various plant departments at any given time.
  • Performs testing and collects production data in accordance with established SOPs when assigned to the production line.
  • Discloses quality related problems to the Production Superintendent and if necessary to the Production Supervisor on duty.
  • May be directed to collect samples of questionable mat produced for further evaluation/testing.
  • Exercises a proactive approach to insure that potentially negative characteristics of the mat being produced are noticed, evaluated, and documented for future reference.
  • Will be proactive in responding to extraordinary situations on the production line.
  • Will assist with various special projects as designated by the Production Superintendent.
  • Calibrates all Lab Testing Devices in accordance with established procedures.
  • Collects data and maintains pertinent data sets for various processes, as designated by the Production Superintendent, while developing an in-depth understanding of the significance of the data.
  • Monitors Viscosity Modifier System for operational readiness and performs other necessary Chemical Container replacements when vessels become empty.
  • Performs any pertinent additional tasks as designated by the Production Superintendent or Supervisor on duty when assigned to shift.
  • Maintains inventories on all laboratory supplies.
  • Maintains the plant in a clean and safe working condition.
  • Maintains a professional working relationship with all TAMKO Personnel.
  • Performs various cleanup & repair procedures during "Shut Down" activities.
  • Needs to be able to run the wet end operation of the plant to include the staging of fiber totes.
  • Needs to be able to run the quality control tests.
  • Needs to be willing to learn the winder operation.
  • Performs additional duties to support the overall mission of the plant.
  • Will be required to fill planned vacancies for Shipping Department personnel or Production Personnel on shift as needed.
  • Works in a safe manner under established company methods, policies and procedures.
  • Attendance/Punctuality - is consistently at work and on time; ensures work responsibilities are covered when absent; arrives at meetings and appointments on time.
  • Be able to distinguish discoloration in the mat during the windup operation.
  • Be able to exert enough force to push a 300-500 pound mat rolls into position.
  • Be able to use wrenches or other tools to adjust or set slitter blades.
  • Be able to read, calculate and record test results using simple math including percent calculation, addition, subtraction, division and multiplication.
  • Must be able to operate cleaning tools to maintain a clean work area.
  • Must be able to verbally communicate test results over the radio or PA system to the machine operator and communicate to the plant staff in an effective fashion.
  • Must be able to descend 20 feet to the basement area unassisted.
  • Must be able to use shovels or brooms to pick up glass from basement floor.
  • Must be able to crawl inside oven area for routine clean out.
  • Must be able to work rotating shifts up to 16 hours.
  • Must be able to work in a hot, cold or dusty environment.
  • Must be able to maintain established production rates.
  • Must be able to read and comprehend instructions, policies and procedures that apply to daily work assignments and help to insure they are being followed.
  • Good working knowledge of HMI's and Computers.
  • Be able to successfully operate the machine as a whole including but not limited to the fiber feed system, rewinder, winder, material handling system, wrapper, lab systems and equipment and all associated machine process systems.

Requirements

Machinery, Tools, Equipment, Electronic Devices and Software Required in this Job

To perform this job successfully, an individual should have some knowledge of the use of Laboratory Equipment, Precision Scales, Tensile Testers, Tear Testers, Refractometers, Sample Cutting Presses and the like, as well as Spreadsheet software and Word Processing software. There will also be occasional work with shovels, chains hoists, jib cranes, Safety Equipment, etc. during basement cleanup operations and forklift driving.

  • The visual acuity requirements including color vision, depth perception and field of vision that is equal to mobile equipment operators, which carries a minimum standard for use similar to those who operate cars, trucks, forklifts, cranes and high lift equipment (including a man lift).
  • The physical requirements of this position are rated as "heavy work." This would require exerting enough force to move mat rolls occasionally and/or exerting force of up to 50 lbs frequently and/or up to 10 lbs consistently to move objects.
  • The worker is subject to inside environmental conditions, including protection from weather conditions, but not necessarily from temperature change and high humidity. The worker is subject to heat (for example, temperatures up to 100 degrees for more than one hour) and/or cold (for example, temperatures below 32 degrees for periods of more than one hour). The worker is also subject to noise. There is sufficient noise to cause the worker to shout in order to be heard above the ambient noise level. The worker is also subject to working on scaffolding in high places. The worker is also subject to atmospheric conditions such as: fumes, odors, dusts, mists, gases or poor ventilation. The worker is also subject to oils and other cutting fluids.
