Position Title: School Psychologist

Summary: The school psychologist has expertise in determining a child's level of cognitive and conceptual development. In addition, the school psychologist is concerned with the emotional status of the student, and how both internal and external factors may affect behavior and performance in school. The school psychologist works with both general education and special education teachers and students. In certain circumstances the school psychologist provides group and individual counseling to students. This position requires a high degree of responsibility, discretion, independent judgment and confidentiality

Qualifications:
  • Master's degree in school psychology from an accredited college or university.
  • Hold a valid New York School Psychologist certification
  • Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of child growth and development, learning assessment and diagnosis, psychological research related to learning, and group and individual therapy strategies.
  • Demonstrate an understanding of current rules and regulations regarding a child study team and special education assessment and program requirements.
  • Demonstrate the ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing, using proper grammar and vocabulary.
  • Understand the requirement to maintain confidentiality concerning child study team and charter school-related matters.

Prior to employment, the following must be addressed:
  • Required to complete a criminal history background check to prove that the individual has not been convicted of a crime or a disorderly person's offense in accordance with EDN Section 2854 (a-2).
  • Provide evidence that health is adequate to fulfill the job functions and responsibilities with reasonable accommodation pursuant to 42 U.S.C. 12101 and in accordance with EDN Section 2854 (a-2).
  • Pass the state required Mantoux Intradermal Tuberculin Test.
  • A valid driver's license is preferred.
  • Meet such alternatives to the above qualifications as the CEO finds appropriate and acceptable.

Performance Responsibilities:

The School Psychologist shall:
  • Pursue the vision and execute the mission of iLearn Schools Inc.
  • Serve as a contributing member of the child study team.
  • Take the lead on the school's I&RS team.
  • Support and promote board and administrative initiatives and decisions.
  • Possess an understanding of the charter school renewal process and assist with the process as needed.
  • Display the highest ethical and professional behavior in working with students, parents, school personnel and outside agencies associated with the charter school.
  • Maintain professional competence and continuous improvement through professional growth.
  • Adhere to federal statutes and regulations, New Yorkschool law, New YorkDepartment of Education rules and regulations, iLearn Schools Inc. policies, procedures and contractual obligations.
  • Take immediate action and notify appropriate personnel concerning any evidence of substance abuse, child abuse, child neglect, severe medical or social conditions, potential suicide or individuals appearing to be under the influence of alcohol, controlled substances, or anabolic steroids. When required, provide crisis prevention and intervention services including suicide assessment screenings.
  • Follow school affirmative action procedures.
  • Maintain a thorough knowledge and understanding of the charter school rules and regulations.
  • Attend school sponsored events as requested/contracted.
  • Protect confidentiality of records and information about staff or students and use discretion when sharing such information within legal confines.
  • Foster and maintain communication and dialogue with the staff.
  • Participate in appropriate in-service and workshop programs and attend any required meetings.
  • Maintain proper phone etiquette and practice discretion when communicating with parents or the community.
  • Issue electronic/paper communications that are written with appropriate language, phrases and punctuation. Use of slang or text language is not acceptable.
  • Assist in the collection of data for local, county, state or federal reports.
  • Possess and understanding of the school emergency response plan.
  • Develop, write and oversee/monitor IEPs as prescribed by law. Perform case manager responsibilities pursuant to special education regulations.
  • Understand and comply with all laws and regulations pursuant to CST responsibilities. Maintain accurate records.
  • Establish and maintain clear procedures for referrals and using time effectively. Participate in and administer case conferences, I&RS meetings when referred students are involved, or as requested.
  • Assist special education and regular classroom teachers and teacher assistants in curriculum modifications and behavior modification interventions for included/mainstreamed pupils, and in the incorporation of the Core Curriculum Content Standards. Help special education teachers to create their schedules according to the students' IEPs.
  • Develop interventions, functional behavior assessments and behavior plans for the purpose of providing a safe and effective educational environment for students with challenging behavior.
  • Conduct psychological evaluations of both referred and classified students, prepare required reports and paperwork in a timely manner.
  • Consult with special education and general education teachers to ensure effectiveness of student related services.
  • Collaborate with school administration including the school nurse in an ongoing manner.
  • Provide counseling services to students on both an individual and group level.
  • As a contributing member of the school community, conduct observations of students and provide feedback to the appropriate school personnel.
  • Communicate with parents in an ongoing manner to provide updates on the referral process, student academic progress and the social- emotional well-being of the students.
  • Participate in the planning, scheduling and attendance of annual IEP meetings and triennial meetings.
  • Collaborate with outside agencies that provide services to the students and parents of the iLearn Schools community.
  • Perform any other duties within the scope of his/her employment and certification that may be assigned.

Terms of Employment: Ten-month employee

Evaluation:

Performance of this job will be evaluated annually in accordance with New York state lawand the provisions of the iLearn Schools policy on evaluation of certified personnel.
