Anesthesia Technician 72hours - Day shift - Bronson Methodist

Under supervision of the Manager, the staff anesthesiologist and according to established policies and procedures, is responsible for assisting the surgical team to meet Surgical Services throughput goals by performing duties in a timely and efficient manner. Maintains and sets up anesthesia equipment in the operating rooms. Assists the anesthesia staff with procedures in the pre-op area and operating room. In addition to meeting the standards of his/her departmental role, the Anesthesia Technician must demonstrate excellent customer service. Employees providing direct patient care must demonstrate competencies specific to the population served.

High school diploma or general education degree (GED) required.

Experience in healthcare delivery system or comparable experience in a healthcare setting preferred.

BLS certification required by the end of the core orientation period.

Successful completion of the organization, unit and job specific competencies within a reasonable orientation period.

Successful completion of American Heart Association CPR Course every two years.

* Knowledge of basic medical terminology required
* Skill and proficiency in oral and written grammar, communication and basic mathematics
* Able to read and interpret data from equipment and computers
* Ability to gather data and set appropriate plan of action, in coordination with RN, and within the scope of the anesthesia technician role
* Assignments are independent from the Operating Room PCA's

Work which produces levels of mental/visual fatigue which are typical of jobs that perform a wide variety of duties with frequent and significant uncontrollable deadlines. Work may include the operation of and full attention to a personal computer or CRT up to 40 percent of the time.

Involves regularly lifting of bulky or moderately heavy weights (i.e., up to 50 pounds), and occasionally assisting with heavier tasks or expending the equivalent effort in pushing, pulling, or otherwise handling material, equipment, and other objects.

* Provides information, direction, and assistance as appropriate to persons entering the unit.
* Obtains information with Cisco phone texting system. Answers signal lights, pages to assist nursing staff with patient needs.
* Assists nursing staff if OR as needed with obtaining ordered medication from automatic medication dispensing system to facilitate patient care.
* Transports patients
* Assists with technical skills for setting up equipment
* Assists with cleaning of anesthesia machines, sets up ambu bag and suction
* Assists other staff in cleaning OR rooms and transporting supplies and equipment.
* Lifting, pushing, pulling or assisting with positioning for anesthesia procedures(nerve blocks).
* Takes and records demographic information as needed.
* Provides skilled technical care according to unit-specific and generic structure standards, protocols and procedures, prescribed medical interventions, and nursing guidelines.
* Maintains a clean and orderly environment, ensuring patient safety and comfort at all times
* Accurately documents all care given
* Assumes responsibility for own growth and development; attends staff regular staff meeting
