Job Description

The Department of Population Health Sciences at the Virginia-Maryland College of Veterinary Medicine invites applications for a tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor in the field of Epidemiology with a focus on Biosecurity, Infection Control, and/or Infectious Disease Prevention. The successful candidate will join a dynamic and collaborative department dedicated to advancing knowledge in public health and population health, with an emphasis on One Health - the intersection of environmental, veterinary, and public health. A commitment to the values of belonging, equity, and inclusion are critical for this role. Opportunities for collaboration exist within the College of Veterinary Medicine, Carilion School of Medicine and Carilion Hospital, Fralin Biomedical Research Institute at VTC, and New River Health District, as well as local, regional, and national partners.

Responsibilities:
1. Research: Conduct cutting-edge research in the epidemiology and control of infectious diseases. Develop and maintain an independent, externally funded research program. Collaboration with colleagues on interdisciplinary research initiatives is highly valued.
2. Teaching: Contribute to the department's educational mission by teaching graduate and professional courses in epidemiology, biosecurity and infection control, infectious disease epidemiology, and/or related topics. Mentor and advise graduate students and contribute to the development of innovative teaching methods.
3. Service: Engage in service activities at the department, college, and university levels. Participate in professional and community outreach.
4. Collaboration: Foster collaborations with local, regional, and national partners, including government agencies, industry, and non-profit organizations. Contribute to the advancement of the field through active participation in professional organizations.

Required Qualifications

- Ph.D. or equivalent degree in Epidemiology, Veterinary Epidemiology, Biosecurity/Infection Control, Biological Sciences, Public Health, or a closely related field.
- A strong record of research accomplishments in infectious disease epidemiology, demonstrated by a history of publications in reputable journals and a successful record of securing external funding.
- Evidence of effective teaching at the graduate and/or professional level, with a commitment to innovative pedagogical approaches.
- Ability to collaborate with colleagues across disciplines and contribute to interdisciplinary research initiatives.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to effectively convey complex epidemiological concepts to diverse audiences.

Preferred Qualifications

- Individuals with a focus on biosecurity and/or infection control are preferred.
- Experience in teaching about infection control or biosecurity is preferred.
