Community Therapy Services, a division of The Stepping Stones Group, is looking for a qualified Child Development Specialist in Santa Clarita, CA. Under the general supervision of the Speech-Language Pathologist (SLP) the Child Development Specialist (CDS) will develop and target child developmental goals and provide general support in communication domains. The incumbent will implement developmental activities and share general strategies for parent education.



Pay: $22.00 - $28.00 per hour

Clinical Responsibilities and Essential Functions

* Provide one-to-one intervention, utilizing the principles of the Early Start Denver Model (ESDM) early intervention program primarily in the home setting
* Enter all CDS goals no later than the 3rd session
* Follow the set therapy plan by targeting goals with consistency and fidelity (which will be reflected in the documentation)
* Consistently take data with a Kindle tablet in 15-20 min increments during a session
* Provide feedback to supervisor (SLP) regarding the consumer's progress, goal development, and need for new programming
* Communicate with the parents verbally and in writing the following: child development goals, progress, and education strategies. Communication must be documented in writing via the SOAP notes
* Create and assign parent education goals for each family under the supervision of the SLP
* Initiate opportunities to generalize learned skills
* Conduct developmental assessments (DAYC, etc.)
* Complete the CDS portions of the report and submit to the SLP on report due dates
* Review data and update all CDS goals every 8 to 10 weeks
* Provide parent education training on a weekly/monthly basis under 805 billing code. Training of CDS (IDP parent education curriculum found on the online library)
* Communicate any changes in scheduling (e.g. make-ups, cancellations) to both parents and supervisor (SLP)
* Communicate parental concerns immediately to the supervisor
* Accept, follow, and implement directions from Supervisor(s) and Regional Clinical Directors
* Utilize prompts appropriately (e.g. least to most) to elicit a correct client response and/or to support the highest level of client independence for a specific task/behavior
* Breakdown a task analysis steps into simple and learnable steps
* Attend team meetings as required
* Complete any additional duties as assigned by supervisor(s)

Professional Responsibilities

* Arrive at the scheduled session on time
* Dress appropriately and follow the guidelines in the BLC handbook
* Follow the missed shift policy as detailed in the BLC handbook.
* Must be self-motivated, responsible, outgoing, patient and eager to learn
* Exhibit good affect and display an appropriate level of energy and maintain professionalism
* Abide by all BLC's confidentiality standards as stated in the employee handbook, which includes keeping all personal info, staff duties.

Skills, Knowledge, and Ability Requirements

* Must be fluent in English and able to communicate effectively using written and verbal language
* Some college experience required. Ideal candidates will have a BA/BS, in the field of child development or at least 12 units of college-level child development classes
* Experience implementing early intervention principles as they apply to child development
* Must be available to work on Saturdays
* Possess excellent time management skills and knowledge of street routes/maps
* Utilizes professional language (avoid slang) when conversing
* Must possess the ability to communicate electronically
* Must have reliable transportation and current liability insurance for the vehicle
* Must complete Livescan applicant fingerprinting and background check procedure
* Ability to adhere to BLC's HIPAA privacy and security policies, practices, and procedures

Minimum Physical and Mental Demands

* Must stand, sit, twist, kneel, bend over, crouch down, walk, sprint (in the event of client elopement), & sit/play on the floor for extended periods of time.
* Must be able to lift, push, and pull up to 40 lbs. without assistance from another adult
* Act or react to behaviors in an appropriate manner
* Must be able to serve culturally and linguistically diverse families in low and high SES areas
* Must be comfortable working in homes (studio apt, housing project, etc.) of families with limited resources.

Working Conditions

Working conditions are normal for an office environment and the noise level is moderately quiet. The individual is required to possess reliable transportation to and from his/her residence to clients and regional offices within the Santa Clarita Valley and San Fernando Valley areas.

Physical Demands

While performing the duties of this position an employee is regularly required to sit for long periods; stand; talk and hear both in person and by telephone; and use hands to operate, handle, and manage multiple pieces of office equipment; and reach with hands and arms.

Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and the ability to adjust focus not only to write and edit reports but to assist in the editing of those reports written by other staff members.

Mental Demands

While performing the duties of this position the employee is regularly required to work on multiple concurrent tasks with constant interruptions, read and interpret documents and information; use oral communication skills; interact with staff, the general public and others encountered in the course of work, some of whom may be dissatisfied and/or abusive individuals.
