Note: If the Director of Nursing Practice Innovation also serves as the entity Magnet Recognition coordinator or PTE coordinator, they will report to the entity CNO for all activities directly related to these designation programs.Leadership: Partners with local Nursing Professional Development Specialist and Informatics Leads and Directors to support new educational programs or ongoing classes, conferences, or skills fairs based on annual competencies or observed gaps in nursing practice.Leadership: Serves on local and/or system interdisciplinary committees.Leadership: Supervises direct reports, as applicable, to develop and meet professional performance goals and objectives as well as practice-related local and system nursing goals. Provides coaching and counseling as needed.
Minimum Qualifications
Education
- Master's degree in Nursing is required from a nationally accredited nursing program. required and
- A Doctor of Nursing Practice degree preferred or
- Advanced Nursing Practice degree/certificate from an accredited program. preferred
Experience
- 5-7 years Clinical experience with at least 2 years of leadership and/or managerial experience. recent, demonstrated experience locating and using evidence to support nursing practice activities. required
Licenses and Certifications
- RN - Registered Nurse - State Licensure and/or Compact State Licensure Licensed as a registered nurse in the entity's(ies) locale. required and
- National certification in a recognized clinical specialty. within 1 Year required and
- CPR - Cardiac Pulmonary Resuscitation (includes BLS and NRP) for healthcare providers from either the American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross within 90 Days required and
- Additional unit/specialty certifications may vary by department or business unit.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to exercise independent judgment.
- Business acumen and leadership skills.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills with ability to effectively interact with all levels of management, internal departments and external agencies.
- Working knowledge of various computer software applications.
- The work requires identifying and resolving complex problems, developing innovative solutions-based searching, appraising and synthesizing literature, connecting with professional organizations through meetings or listservs and assembling extensive cross-functional knowledge of the various MedStar Health entities.
- Work assignments are generally received via system, hospital, departmental, specialty committee or nursing council goals; contemporary clinical, safety or product issues; or developing or updating evidence-based clinical practice guidelines.
- All work outputs require exquisite attention to detail, application of clinical judgment, and interpretation or creation of policies, procedures, and developing appropriate courses of action.
