NIGHT CUSTODIAN Responsibility: Under the supervision of the Principal and/or District Administration, keeps assigned building spaces clean and orderly and performs related work as required. Essential Functions: 1. Sweeps, scrubs, vacuums, waxes and polishes flooring and performs manual labor; empties and cleans trash cans and waste containers and replaces light bulbs. 2. Dusts and cleans walls, furniture, woodwork, lockers, whiteboards and other equipment; cleans and polishes metalwork. 3. Washes, scrubs, and disinfects restrooms, drinking fountains, door glass, and windows. 4. Cleans offices, classrooms, libraries, multipurpose rooms, cafeteria, hallways, and other assigned areas. 5. Assists in restoration and in-depth cleaning of buildings during school vacations. 6. Possess ability to read, understand and carry out oral and written directions. Duties/Responsibilities: 1. Moves and rearranges school equipment such as chairs, tables, desks, shelves, and other equipment. 2. Makes minor, non-technical repairs or adjustments to school equipment. 3. Secures buildings at end of shift. 4. Sets up rooms for special occasions. 5. Possesses ability to learn schedules, procedures, and use of custodial supplies and equipment. Qualifications: 1. Knowledge of basic cleaning methods and the use and care of cleaning equipment and materials. 2. Ability to perform minor maintenance work. 3. Ability to read and understand technical manuals and appropriate codes. 4. Possession of a California Driver's License. 5. Knowledge of common tools and their uses, including safety procedures. 6. Ability to work any shift. 7. Ability to provide own transportation if required to work at more than one site. 8. Ability to maintain cooperative relationships with fellow employees, teachers, and students. Education/Experience: 1. One year of general work experience, preferably including some custodial or janitorial work. Maintenance skills essential. 2. High school diploma or equivalent. Physical Requirements: 1. Positions in this category require ability associated with prolonged periods of heavy physical labor. 2. Position regularly performs heavy physical labor requiring ability to lift, carry, push, pull, and move heavy objects or materials. 3. Requires heavy physical effort such as lifting over 50 pounds on continuous basis. 4. Lifting 50 lbs. maximum or carrying any object weighing up to 25 lbs.
