Sr. Specialist, Data Engineering and Science

At Sony Electronics Inc (SEL), the needs of customer data for marketing application and growth of business have significantly increased. SEL is seeking a Sr. Specialist, Data Engineering and Science who is an experienced in maintaining high level of data quality and integrity as well as in delivering marketing insights with advanced analytics for Sony's marketing activities and business growth.

Reporting to the Manager of Data Platform Strategy and Data Science, this role will oversee Sony's 1st party customer data management and development as well as advanced analytics with the customer data. The right candidate will be highly skilled/experienced in data management as well as advanced analytics.

The ideal candidate will have mathematical and statistical expertise, along with natural curiosity and a creative mind. While mining, interpreting, and cleaning our data, this person will be relied on to ask questions, connect the dots, and uncover hidden opportunities for realizing the data's full potential. As part of a team of specialists, the data engineer/scientist will "slice and dice" data using various methods and create new visions for the future.

The Sr. Specialist, Data Engineering and Science is a critical role and part of the Sony's Chief Strategy Office focused on the achievement of Sony's strategic mid-range goals.

Key Activities

* Data Engineering
* Collaborates with Sr. Specialist, data operation and other internal teams to develop an understanding of business needs to execute data models/schemas designs and developments.
* Manages the daily operations of Sony's data environments by monitoring data quality exceptions, data quality controls and remediation, ensuring the data is always accurate and available for any analytical or marketing processes.
* Triages and prioritizes data issues through to resolution by working with internal and external teams.
* Provides timely and consistent updates and recommendations on data operations issues and improvements.
* Designs and develops data models/schemas that feed business intelligence tools by applying data engineering knowledge, including ETL, data warehouse and data mart development, to Sony's data assets.
* Identifies and integrates new datasets into Sony' data environments, and work closely with IT teams to develop data pipelines.
* Develops roadmap for continued enhancements and improvements to Sony's data environments.
* Establishes standard operating procedures, consistent definitions, naming conventions and data governance.
* Maintains documentation on Sony data and systems and develops deep knowledge of Sony's data characteristics and history.
* Collaborates across other Sony Companies and Sony HQ teams for global data projects and data issue resolution.
* Ensures Sony's data operations and use comply with existing US and Canadian Privacy Legislation and keeps up to date with new and developing legislative changes.


* Data Science
* Works with Sr. Specialist, data operation and other internal teams to develop an understanding of business needs to execute analytical studies.
* Interprets and analyzes customer data using exploratory mathematics and statistical techniques.
* Lead discussions and assesses the feasibility of advanced analytics including AI/ML solutions to solve business challenges.
* Develops and applies advanced analytics including AI/ML solutions such as propensity modelling to drive optimization and improvement of marketing activities.
* Implements advanced analytics including AI/ML solutions in production by collaborating with IT teams.
* Develops processes to monitor and ensure analytical model performance and data accuracy.
* Identifying relevant customer segments from Sony's data environment and pull the list for both analytical and marketing purposes.
* Presents the results and suggestions from analytical studies to internal teams by using easily understandable visuals and concise reports.
* Oversees identify resolution, test and control marketing measurement capabilities that internal or external IT team manages.
* Collaborates across other Sony Companies and Sony HQ teams to develop predictive modelling and advanced analytics.



Experience and Skills

* Required
* Bachelor's in data engineering, big data analytics, computer engineering, or related field and 3-5 years of experience in data engineering such as schema design, ETL, data quality management, managing cloud platform services, and data science;
* or Master's degree in data engineering, big data analytics, computer engineering, or related field and 2+ of experience in data engineering such as schema design, ETL, data quality management, managing cloud platform services, and data science
* Advanced working SQL knowledge and experience working with relational databases, query authoring (SQL) as well as working familiarity with a variety of databases.
* Advanced experience in data mining, mathematics, statistical analysis, and prediction modeling using AI/ML as well as using programming language (R, Python etc.) to manipulate data and draw insights from large data sets.
* Highly proficient in Excel, PowerPoint, Business intelligence tools (e.g. Power BI, Tableau, and Sisense)
* Strong problem-solving skills, ability to structure solutions into a data model to support analytics needs.
* Comfortable operating independently in a fast-paced environment.
* Strong attention to detail, commitment to continuous learning.
* Strong communication skills and ability to explain technical concepts to non-technical audiences.
* Experience managing external vendors and working collaboratively across different teams, both in North American, Japan, and India.


* Preferred Skills and Experience
* Experience with AWS cloud services: EMR, Redshift is a plus
* Bachelor's degree (or equivalent) in statistics, applied mathematics, or related discipline
* Familiarity with Redshift, APIs, AWS, Databricks is a plus
* Two or more years of project management experience
* Two or more years of business analytics and consulting experience
