Description

POSITION TITLE: Residential Counselor

REPORTS TO: Residential Services Director or Treatment Director

POSITION DESCRIPTION SUMMARY: The Residential Counselor is responsible for counseling and managing a caseload in a coeducational, residential facility for substance abuse clients. This position requires one evening per wkke, Saturday morning, and an on-call shift every 5-6 weeks (rotating basis).

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
  • Manages and maintains a client caseload of residential patients; initiates, implements, and reviews treatment plans for all assigned patients;
  • Provides individual counseling to all assigned patients;
  • Helps facilitate group counseling sessions for all residential patients;
  • Initiates family counseling as needed; coordinates client involvement with other community agencies; acts as the on-call counselor on a rotating basis;
  • Provides urinalysis monitoring on an as needed basis;
  • Attends training as needed and directed; helps plan and implement recreational activities for residential patients;
  • Helps general public; maintains contact with referring agency or person;

Requirements

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  • Master's degree in Human Service or related field preferred; or Bachelor's Degree in Substance Abuse Counseling, Social Work, Human Services, Counseling or related field; or certified or licensed counselor working in the substance abuse field and/or mental health field.
  • Ability to work on a daily basis utilizing standard office equipment.
  • Ability to use computer system, software and to work well technology.
  • Ability to use independent judgment, analytical/decision-making skills, verbal and written communication skills, human relations skills, team working skills, and organizational skills.
  • Certification from IBC is preferred
  • This position consists of frequent sitting and/or standing for extended periods of time.
