Central to the University's commitment to public education is the UChicago Charter School (UCCS). UCCS began in 1998 with a group of committed educators, who, working in partnership with the University of Chicago, founded the North Kenwood/Oakland Campus, a prekindergarten to fifth grade school. UCCS opened its second elementary campus, Donoghue, in 2005. UCCS' first middle school and high school campus was established in 2006 for students from grades six to 12 at the Woodlawn Campus. All three of UCCS' school buildings are within 10 minutes of the University of Chicago campus. Today, the three UChicago Charter campuses, and their 200+ staff members, offer over 1300 neighborhood children on Chicago's South Side a pre-K through grade 12 superhighway that empowers students to achieve excellence at every level, cultivating critical thinkers and leaders for success in college and in life.

Position Summary:

The UCCS Director of Compliance is responsible for ensuring compliance with all state and local school reporting, management of state and city grants, and ensuring compliance with all laws and regulations set for UChicago Charter School by city, state, and federal agencies. The UCCS Director of Compliance also manages all UCCS Board administrative responsibilities, including Board compliance, training, and Open Meetings Act (OMA) requirements.

Principal Job Responsibilities:

Collects, organizes, and prepares key UCCS data for all compliance reporting consistent with applicable regulations.

Manages process for UCCS's reporting and submissions to relevant organizations, including the Illinois State Board of Education, Chicago Public Schools, the University of Chicago, and city, state, and federal agencies.

Ensures network compliance with Title IX, including the grievance procedures for resolving complaints involving students and staff. Keeps informed of current legislation related to Title IX.

Responsible for all UCCS Board coordination and management responsibilities, including recording the minutes for UCCS Board meetings, and preparing and disseminating the UCCS Board materials.

Ensures all minutes and board meeting announcements are posted timely and in compliance with OMA regulations and manages all board meeting invitations, RSVPs, and compliance with OMA.

Develops, supports and implements charter school protocols and procedures, and works to improve operational systems across the UCCS network, including providing training and support to UCCS staff on accessing and uploading data and/or reports to Chicago Public Schools, Illinois State Board of Education and other school reporting systems.

Creates and provides network-wide student and staff training, and prevention programming that safeguards against future harm and prepares school staff to address any instance of harm promptly and appropriately. Promotes agency and awareness among students and parents, ensuring they are fully informed of the resources and supports available to them. Ensures training offered meets all mandates required under federal, state, and local laws.

Manages all city and state grants, specific to Chicago Public Schools, Illinois State Board of Education, and the Office of Innovation and Incubation and other entities, and ensures school compliance with these grants.

Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university. Previous compliance management experience required. Previous board administrative management preferred. Working knowledge of Title IX legislation.
