when filledSUMMARY OF POSITION:
This position will be responsible for various tasks at CHS. The primary responsibilities of this position are supervising the CHS cafeteria. This position requires the person to be very flexible in accepting assigned tasks by their supervisors with a strong sense of teamwork needed. This position will deal with students and staff on a regular basis and will be expected to interact with all stakeholders in a professional, friendly, and organized manner.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
High school diploma or general education degree (GED). Educational training and experience preferred.

PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES
  1. Manages students during meal service (behavior problems will be referred to the teacher or principal according to guidelines established by the individual school site).
  2. Communicates with students and school staff in a positive and professional manner utilizing appropriate customer service and interpersonal skills
  3. Circulate throughout the cafeteria or in areas where meals are served and/or eaten assisting students who need assistance
  4. Assists with the cleanliness of the cafeteria
  5. Dismisses classes in an orderly manner at the scheduled time
  6. Encourage good table manners
  7. Aides must be knowledgeable about student behavior and characteristics and have a repertoire of acceptable methods to redirect and control students
  8. Organizational skills are needed since these aides often have several duties to perform simultaneously
  9. They must have very good communication skills in order to effectively communicate with students, teachers and principals
  10. Previous experience working with students and knowledge of first aid is an asset
  11. Assist new students in lunchroom orientation
  12. Enforce established rules and regulations
  13. Communicate discipline problems requiring attention to the appropriate teacher and/or principal
  14. Has the ability to exercise disciplinary procedures in a consistent and fair manner
  15. Is trained in Heimlich Maneuver and CPR
  16. Function as an appropriate role model for children, providing proper examples, emotional support, and a friendly attitude and general guidance
  17. Respond to emergency situations for the purpose of resolving student safety concerns and reporting those concerns to direct supervisor
  18. Keep teachers and principal informed of special needs or problems of individual students
  19. Attend after school functions when directed by principal
  20. Complete other responsibilities as deemed necessary by the building administrator or administrator designee

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND PERSONAL CHARACTERISTICS
  1. Demonstrate interpersonal skills necessary to deal tactfully and effectively with persons at all levels in order to develop and maintain productive relationships with all publics
  2. Work cooperatively with teachers, students, and staff
  3. Ability to learn new skills quickly and assimilate into daily work
  4. Functional skills in reading and writing English
  5. Knowledgeable about meal pattern requirements; understands federal, state, and local program regulations
  6. Knowledge of proper food safety and sanitation procedures for food service
  7. Ability to maintain high level of confidentiality both inside and outside the corporation
  8. Ability to work independently and in a team environment
  9. Ability to multi-task with attention to detail
  10. Ability to learn lunchroom and school rules, procedures and expectations and apply them on a consistent basis
  11. Demonstrate organizational and time management skills
  12. Perform all other duties as assigned by immediate supervisor

The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. The employee is protected from outside weather conditions, but not necessarily from temperature changes. There are no environmental hazards indicated for this position.

Equipment: This position is required to maintain a working knowledge of all school and cafeteria equipment. A basic knowledge of operations for computers, printers, telephone systems, fax machines and copiers is required.

Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
