A. PURPOSE AND SCOPE:
In keeping with Shields Health Care commitment to excellence, the PET technologist will provide a professional, caring atmosphere to all customer groups, while maintaining a fast-paced, multi-tasked oriented clinical environment.
B. PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:
1.) Follow all Shields Health Care Group policies, procedures, and protocols to ensure patient safety at all times.
2.) Follow rules and regulations established by the NRC, state regulatory agencies, and JCAHO.
3.) Inform the patient of all aspects of their exam to their level of understanding.
4.) Operate PET equipment to produce images and measure concentrations of Radioactive Isotopes in specific body areas and body products.
5.) Performs all hot lab responsibilities.
6.) Ensure patient is cleared of all contraindications and hazards.
7.) Accurately position the patient and ensure their comfort.
8.) Maintain visual and verbal contact with the patient during the exam.
9.) Complete all forms pertaining to patient’s exam.
10.) Record patient data to Tech Data Entry program.
11.) Provide and issue films when appropriate.
12.) Forward PET related data to Radiologist upon completion of exam.
13.) Refilm cases as time allows
14.) Assist clerical staff as circumstances arise.
15.) Clean and re-supply equipment and rooms as needed.
C. EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
Must possess a state license for the state(s) in which he/she is employed to work
Must be certified in CPR
Must be registered by the ARRT and/or NMTCB.
D. EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
A minimum of one-year prior nuclear medicine experience is required. Excellent interpersonal skills are required. Must be proficient in starting IVs.
E. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Must be able to sit and utilize a computer for extended periods of time. Must be able to assist patients with mobility difficulties. Must be able to push, pull, and lift a minimum of twenty-five pounds.
F. INTERNAL/EXTERNAL INTERACIONS:
Extensive interactions with all customer groups, including patients, families, referring community and other SHC employees. Will also have regular interactions with contractors, vendors, and medical transport personnel.
