Engineering Manager

Overland Park, KS (Hybrid Remote)

Position Summary

Thales is looking for an Engineering Manager to lead our NAS (Navigation And non-radar surveillance business located onsite in Overland Park, KS. Thales' Navigation And non-radar Surveillance (NAS) business segment, part of the Thales Land and Air Systems Global Business Unit, architects solutions used by over two-thirds of all planes worldwide to take off and land safely. Our Ground Navigation portfolio offers a complete range of products, which includes the latest generation of ground-based navigational aids (NAVAIDs) (e.g. ILS, DME, TACAN & VOR) and non-radar surveillance (e.g. ADS-B). With more than 10,000 NAVAIDs and non-radar surveillance installed worldwide in 180 countries, we are world leaders in the NAVAIDs market. This is an opportunity to lead a multi-disciplinary engineering team focused on the development and delivery of products and programs to a wide variety of customers in the aerospace sector; covering both the Civil and Military domains with a primary focus on Tactical Air Navigation (TACAN) systems.

In this position, the Engineering Manager has two roles in the Navigation and non-radar Surveillance (NAS) Engineering Organization: Hire, manage and coach the Overland Park based engineering team by overseeing individual and team development, as well as being responsible for compliance with the engineering processes and tool. Perform hands-on technical management throughout all stages of product lifecycle from initial capture of customer requirements through development and deployment to the customer. This position will require a technical background and the ability to direct and manage activities based on technical and programmatic inputs. The Engineering Manager will report directly to the US Engineering Director of Thales' NAS business segment.

Key Areas of Responsibility

Oversight and management of the engineering team's budgets, training and career development. Participation in Thales' HR annual activities, resource planning (including Interns and contract engineers), performance management, hiring, training, salary planning, vacation, etc.
Promote and allow good and harmonized deployment of process, tools and means (IT/IS) in accordance with the engineering performance plan. Address institutional organization in the country (DoD, University, Regional Organization, etc.) by completing innovation funding with local SME partner or with state innovation program.
Contributes to system level integration in terms of requirements knowledge and expectations, planning, scheduling and execution of hardware and software integration project and programs.
Contributes to Rough Order of Magnitude (ROM) & schedule estimates and supports proposals, customer presentations, and new product design.
Acts as technical Point-Of-Contact (POC) for Thales customers.
Representing engineering across disciplines including Programs, Industry, Services, Bids and Operations.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's or Master's Degree in Systems, Electrical, Software Engineering, or other technical field and 10+ years related technical work experience.
10+ years' experience managing/leading teams. Must be self-starter and motivated to work in a fast-paced environment. Previous experience in planning, budgeting, implementing, and monitoring engineering projects. Demonstrated ability to apply technical knowledge to monitor project activities.
Strong analytical abilities. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Ability to multitask across the organization, local and global, on various technical and non-technical subject matters.
Proven ability to work in a multinational and multicultural team with varied degrees of experience. Experience with requirement management tools, configuration management tools, technical documentation tools, and problem reporting tools. Experience working in collaborative environments (e.g. Cloud, Obeya, Problem solving, Kaizen). Proven level of experience in team motivation, team leadership, staff development, performance management, and mentoring.
Must be a US Person as defined in applicable law.
Must be a U.S. Person as defined in applicable law, or otherwise authorized or eligible for authorization, to access to hardware, software, technology or technical data controlled under the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR) and/or the Export Administration Regulations (EAR).

Special Position Requirements

Schedule: Mon-Thu on 9/80 or 5/40 schedule.
Physical Environment: Primarily in Overland Park, KS office on a hybrid work schedule.
Travel: Travel: Anticipated to be less than 10% annually. Trips can be both domestic and international travel and less than 5 days in length, with international trips up to 7 days in length.
