We are searching for candidates that meet the required qualifications and experience and are able to perform the essential duties and responsibilities.

Job Summary:
Safely perform apprentice-level tasks in the fabrication, construction, maintenance, alteration, and repair of fixtures, equipment, structures, buildings, and built-in components for Collin College facilities. Work under the on-site supervision of a journeyman or master electrician with moderate latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment.

Required Qualifications:

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Install, maintain, and repair electrical equipment and systems of all types in accordance with the latest National Electrical Code (NEC) guidelines. Perform preventative maintenance on all existing electrical systems and equipment.
  • Keep all work areas and related electrical equipment and/or tool rooms clean at all times.
  • Take care of all tools belonging to the institution that are being used by the electrical department.
  • Provide quick and efficient responses to campus emergencies.
  • Perform other similar and related duties as assigned that utilize the employee's knowledge, experience, and unique skill set.
  • Participate and complete required training, personal development, and continuing education.
  • Maintain compliance with national, state, and local codes.

  • Perform duties to maintain all standards in accordance with college policies, procedures, and Core Values.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Thorough knowledge of the standard tools, equipment, materials, methods, and practices of the assigned trade
  • Basic knowledge and ability to install, operate, maintain, and install electrical systems and associated equipment
  • Knowledge of occupational and safety hazards, PPE, and accident prevention in trade
  • Basic skills in proper use of the tools, equipment and devices used in the construction and maintenance trade
  • Demonstrated excellent communication skills
  • Basic understanding of other trades and ability to assist in the completion of assigned tasks
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships
  • Able to work and respond on weekends, holidays, and after hours


Physical Demands, Working Conditions and Physical Effort
Medium Work - Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 20 pounds of force constantly having to move objects. Positions in this class typically include talking, hearing, seeing, grasping, standing, walking and repetitive motions, stooping, kneeling, crouching, and reaching, climbing and balancing, plus pushing, pulling and lifting.
Incumbents may be subjected to moving mechanical parts, odors, dusts, poor ventilation, chemicals, oils, extreme temperatures, inadequate lighting and intense noises. In addition, incumbents may be subjected to gases and workspace restrictions. Occasional exposure to unpleasant environmental conditions and/or hazards. Occasional outside work. Frequent physical effort required.

Requirements
High school diploma or an equivalency certificate.
Two (2) years of experience as a licensed apprentice in the electrical trade is required.

Licenses and Certifications
Texas Department of Licensing & Regulation (TDLR) apprentice electrician license required.

Valid Texas Driver's License* and insurability with the college's insurance carrier.

*Individuals hired for this position may be required to drive a company vehicle. A Motor Vehicle Report (MVR) will be run in conjunction with the background check during the contingent offer stage and annually/bi-annually for the duration of employment at Collin College. Candidates who fail the original background/MVR report or subsequent MVR reports may not be hired and/or terminated based on the results of the report.
