Position Title: Operating Room Nurse (2)

Location: Chinle, Arizona

Position Summary: 1 Health Solutions is hiring two Operating Room Nurses to support the Indian Health Service located in Chinle, Arizona.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Observes and assesses elective surgery health status and critically ill emergency patients by physical assessment and examination, interviewing patient and family members and reviewing patients past medical history.
  • Initiates treatments, medications, emergency and resuscitative measures based on appropriate utilization of physician’s pre, intra and post-operative orders, standing orders, and ACLS/PALS protocols..
  • Records observations, nursing interventions, therapeutic measures, hemodynamic monitoring data and other data relevant to patients in the OR and PACU.
  • Administers therapeutic measures as prescribed by the anesthetist, anesthesiologist and surgeon such as medication treatments, intravenous fluids, blood transfusion, oxygen therapy, etc.
  • Operates and monitors specialized equipment such as cardiac monitors (ECG), EKG machines, glucometer, gastric and thoracic suction, CO2 tanks for laparoscopic surgery, laparoscopic video equipment, electrocautery (ESU), powered equipment, dermatomes and sterilization equipment, such as autoclave and level one Steris.
  • Collaborates with members of the surgical and multidisciplinary teams in assessing, planning, and implementing surgical interventions in management of patient’s health care pre-operatively.
  • Functions in PACU to provide intravenous and respiratory therapy, assesses cardiopulmonary status, respiratory status, hemodynamic status and pain levels. Initiates treatments and physician/anesthesia orders as indicated.
  • Functions as circulating nurse in operating room, assisting anesthesia with intubation and extubation, and positioning. Prepares for surgical procedures by gathering necessary equipment and supplies. Preps surgical site utilizing sterile technique. Conducts surgical counts, where necessary. Makes available and assists in use of OR specific equipment. Documents care on intraoperative form
  • Take call for operating room/recovery room, providing for all phases of perioperative care of afterhours urgent/emergent surgical patients
  • Inter-Facility Transports.
  • Provide appropriate documentation regarding care rendered using Chinle Comprehensive Health Care Facility's (CCHCF) Electronic Health Record (EHR) system. All documentation by the provider shall be entered electronically using the Electronic Health Record system. The provider is responsible for utilizing the CCHCF EHR system to obtain pertinent patient information in assisting care. It is the responsibility of the provider to use the training resources provided by the CCHCF to develop competency in utilizing the Electronic Health Record system.
  • Follows facility policies and procedures, TJC, (OSHA), Indian Health Services (IHS) and other federal licensing, accreditation and regulating body standards.

Education Requirements:

Professional Development- Degree or diploma from a professional nursing program approved by the legally designated State accrediting agency at the time the program was completed by applicant.

Experience and Certification Requirements:
  • Thirty-six (36) months of nursing experience, with a minimum of twelve months (12) in the specialty required by the contract, unless otherwise approved by the Contracting Officer. The Contractor shall have experience that equips the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position, and that is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled.
  • License/Registration: All nurses shall possess a current, valid, unrestricted nursing license in a state, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a Territory of the United States, throughout the term of this contract.
  • Motor Vehicle Operator’s License. If required by the position, the Contractor shall possess a valid state driver’s license throughout the term of this contract.
  • Certifications (American Heart Association). Current Basic Cardiac Life Support (BLS) is mandatory. Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS), Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS), Neonatal Resuscitation Provider (NRP), Trauma Nurse Critical Care (TNCC), and Nurse Specialty certification (e.g., CNOR, Fetal monitoring) is preferred for each appropriate duty section at the time of employment and throughout the term of this contract.

Working Conditions:

Work shift: 8.0 Hours shifts totaling 10 shifts/2-week period, rotating on-call during weeknights and weekends, as scheduled by the SCN based on the unit’s needs for coverage. With thirty minutes lunch for day shift. Weeknight On-Call/Standby Hours: 15.5 Hours per night, 3:30 pm to 7:00 am, Monday through Friday. Weekend/Holiday On-Call/Standby Hours: Twenty-four (24) Hours per day.
