MISSION STATEMENT:  Center Point, Inc.’s (CPINC) mission is to provide comprehensive social, educational, vocational, medical, psychological, housing, and rehabilitation services to combat social problems such as substance abuse, poverty, unemployment, and homelessness. CPINC offers rehabilitation and treatment services that interrupt the abusive cycles of psychological, social, and economic dislocation by providing critical training and support so that individuals and families can claim self-worth and dignity. FUNCTION OF THE POSITION:  Under the direction of the Supervising Counselor (Counselor III), Counselors II provide direction, leadership and supportive supervision to clients for a variety of therapeutic activities and services.  Counselors II monitor the progress and activities of clients in treatment and record same in the form of progress and case management notes in client files, group notes, assessment and periodic re-assessment, treatments and treatment plan reviews, shift notes and incident reports. Counselors II are also responsible for monitoring the physical plant to ensure that the program operates in a safe and sanitary manner. Counselors II also perform case management activities in conjunction with Counselors I to facilitate the client’s treatment experience as well as facilitate the client’s community reintegration through accessing supportive services such as housing and childcare. EDUCATION AND WORK EXPERIENCE: 
  • Must possess an active AOD Counseling Certification from one of the accredited organizations recognized by the state of California. Counselors II must maintain good standing and all other requirements of their certification at all times.
  • Knowledge of drug addiction, drug abuse patterns, and treatment methodologies required. Experience in residential treatment highly desirable. Recovering persons are encouraged to apply. 
  • High School Diploma or GED Certificate, required.
  • BS/BA Degree preferred.

QUALIFICATIONS (KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS REQUIRED)
  • By time of hire, obtain or have a valid California Driver’s license and maintain satisfactory driving record.
  • By time of hire or within first 30 days, must have First Aid/CPR Certification, required
  • Ability to pass a background check.
  • Strong use of the English language in verbal and written communication.
  • Have a “can do” attitude and be a team player.
  • Ability to work in fast paced environment and maintain poise under pressure.
  • Be self-directed, motivated, resilient and flexible.
  • Must value the importance of diversity in the workplace.

COMPUTER RELATED SKILLS: 
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite or similar software programs.
  • Working knowledge of integrated database applications and ability to use new software programs with basic training
  • Ability to operate a desktop or laptop computer.

  • Actively monitors clients, floor coverage, rules and program structure/facilitates daily treatment activities.
  • Maintains safety and security of clients and cleanliness of facility.
  • Maintains client charts to Center Point and State standards.
  • Punctual and dependable/timely and accurate completion of all charting and log requirements.
  • Functions as a role model for Center Point concepts/philosophy/maintains standards of quality.

  • Seeks supervision/responds to supervision/briefs supervisor/seeks to further knowledge through reading, probing, and on the job training/attends all training sessions.

  • Shows initiative and is a pro-active member of the team/adequately prepares for groups, staff meetings, clinical reviews.

 Therapeutic Activities
  • In conjunction with designated clinician/LPHA, assess potential and continuing clients and make recommendation for placement in appropriate Center Point programs and Levels of Care.
  • Conducts assessments with prescribed instruments for initial, continuing, and modified treatment activities for clients.
  • Model Center Point Concepts and appropriate behavior.
  • Administer, score and evaluate client testing within seven days of admittance as needed.
  • Provide primary therapeutic services to clients assigned to his/her caseload.
  • Conduct individual and group counseling sessions.
  • Administers client centered interventions and assigns appropriate learning experiences.
  • Establish trusting relationships with clients on caseload.
  • Interact with diverse client population in a culturally sensitive manner.
  • Plans therapeutic and recreational activities.
  • Responsible for a caseload of clients and their families.
  • Makes recommendation for client advancement in treatment.
  • Provides family counseling to assigned caseload as appropriate.
  • Provides continuing care and aftercare services as assigned.
 Case Management Activities
  • Develop individualized treatment plans within seven days of client admittance.
  • Maintain accurate and detailed client records.
  • Documents client progress through weekly progress notes and treatment plan reviews.

  • Facilitate client health care needs including medication management.
  • Log therapeutic services in client charts, maintain group notes and write incident reports as required.
  • Detail major activities in daily shift log.
  • Participates in interdisciplinary team case conferences as appropriate.
  • Assures client charts are in compliance with Agency policies and applicable State and Federal regulations inclusive of Drug Medi-Cal standards.
  • Make referrals for supportive services.
  • Liaisons with client probation/parole officers.
  • Constructs letters for clients outlining program participation and submits for manager approval prior to sending.
  • Performs case presentations as assigned.
  • Develop discharge and aftercare plans.
 Programmatic Activities
  • Maintains program security.
  • Participates in Shift Exchange transfer of information.
  • Collect urine samples for anti-drug testing.
  • Coordinates weekly urinalyses schedule.
  • Supervise resident behavior, including house chores and adherence to rules, policies, and procedures.
  • Provide information about the program to the public.
  • Monitor client recreational activities.
  • Inspect facilities for maintenance needs and perform same.
  • Distribute client medication.
  • Assists with the training of new staff.
  • Is responsible for documenting all incidents occurring on shift and timely notification of supervisor.
  • Liaison with community support services.
  • Dispense client money and makes required notations.
  • Recommend visits, passes, and money requests for approval.
 PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
  • Must be in good physical health and mental health, capable of meeting the demands of the program.
  • Ability to sit, walk, stand, bend, squat, climb, kneel and twist on an intermittent or continuous basis.
  • Ability to grasp, push, pull objects such as files, file cabinet drawers, and reach overhead.
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 25 lbs.
