In 2024 McGinnis Meadows Cattle & Guest Ranch will be offering an exciting opportunity for a few outstanding individuals
We typically have quite a few folks who apply for wrangler and intern positions on the ranch throughout the year. Often, we get applications and resumes on a daily basis In order for us to pick individuals who are the perfect fit for the ranch, we will be holding our second annual "Working Intern Try-Outs" March 2-9.
This is a unique opportunity to grow your horsemanship to a degree that you never thought possible We our students of Buck Brannaman and the vaquero traditions. You will dive deep into the nitty gritty of refined horsemanship and the art of making bridle horses. In addition, you'll be working with cattle in terms of cutting, roping, hunting, and driving cattle over 25,000 acres of mountain wilderness. You will learn the value of teaching guests who come from all over the world to learn this way of riding. At McGinnis Meadows, you are guaranteed to learn to "be something different" as our motto goes.
So how does a person get selected for these positions? Here’s the lowdown…
You will plan on arriving to the ranch in person on the assigned date. Treat this like it’s a competition /interview because in all reality, it is
We are looking for a well-rounded individual and will be looking for people who can check the most boxes from the 3 layers of assessments below:
- Riding Skills - W/T/C, knowing your leads, efficient with a rope, cattle experience. We teach exclusive Buck Brannaman horsemanship here, so knowledge of and previous experience with Buck’s discipline is a huge asset.

- Other Skills - What else do you bring to the table? Truck, trailer, standard transmission, irrigation, fencing, heavy equipment operation and/or repair, cooking, doctoring, administrative experience, farrier work - show us what you’ve got
In order to apply, we’ll need you to send us a video of yourself answering the following questions:
- What is your name, your age, and where are you from?
- What do you think will set you apart from the rest of the group coming in? What is your greatest strength? What do you currently consider your greatest weakness/limiter?
- Tell us a little about how you feel like you place in our assessment currently. Do you have any plans to expand on your knowledge before arrival?
- How do you handle pressure? Tell us about a stressful scenario in the past and how you handled it.
- Complete this sentence… “I’d like to work at McGinnis Meadows because…”
- How would this position fit in with your longer-term goals?
- If you were asked you to complete a task you thought impossible at first, how would you go about it?
In addition, please send us a regular work history resume and a riding video. For the riding video, we are looking to see a fast walk, your canter seat on a loose rein, and anything that is not dry work (such as working cattle or roping but only if possible).
Please submit your interview video with a work resume to apply. A riding video must be submitted at that time. Email video links and resume to des@mmgranch.net. Study our website at www.mmgranch.net
