Scope of role

The Buyer obtains bids, negotiates pricing, and places Purchase Orders for materials required in support of all Stainless Tank & Equipment manufacturing operations in accordance with Company guidelines, goals, and objectives. Key Responsibilities 

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Requests supplier quotations and selects best proposal based on lead time, quality, and price
  • Negotiates blanket agreements with suppliers for direct and indirect materials to obtain best terms and conditions for Company
  • Analyzes direct material requirements based on customer requirements and order materials to meet customer demand
  • Conducts supplier performance evaluations on a quarterly basis based on key metrics that include on time delivery
  • Manages relationships with direct and indirect suppliers
  • Manages favorable purchase price variance (PPV)
  • Consolidates/rationalizes supply base
  • Supports R&D efforts with required materials and resources
  • Expedites materials/commodities as required
  • Manages/supports Vendor Managed Inventory (VMI) by working closely with vendors on consumables and materials
  • Strives for continuous improvement in such matters as on time delivery and cost and quality
  • Enforces terms and conditions of purchase orders and compliance with legal requirements and company policy
  • Resolves non-conformance issues, back charges and claims in a timely manner to minimize company exposure
  • Ensures Reorder Points and Safety Stock levels are maintained at established levels
  • Initiates projects that eliminate non-value-added activities, increase quality, and reduce costs
  • Monitors commodity trends of steel and take advantage of cost reductions
  • Initiates PPV related projects
  • Responds to unforeseen developments and initiate actions to reduce adverse impact
  • Works with cross functional teams to include Engineering, Quality, and Sales Departments
  • Problem solves and communicates effectively with work team
  • Contributes ideas for continuous improvement of workflow and processes
  • Follows all safety guidelines and procedures
  • Performs other duties as assigned
 PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE/QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree preferred; Associate’s degree required
  • 5-8 years’ experience in purchasing/strategic buying
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously, set priorities, identify, and address problems, meet deadlines, and stay within budget 
 Interpersonal, Leadership, and Technical Skills
  • Excellent computer skills and proficiency in Word, Excel, and Outlook
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks
  • Excellent organizational skills
  • Good verbal and written communication skills
  • Professionalism and a positive attitude are a must
  • Self-motivated, self-starter
  • Ability to work in a variety of environments which may include exposure to extreme heat, humidity, fumes, or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, loud noise, and all-weather conditions
