Billing Specialist (Remote)

DiscoverU Health, a dynamic startup company, is seeking a dedicated Billing Specialist to join our thriving remote team. This role will play a crucial part in ensuring accurate and timely billing processes, contributing to the financial health of our organization dedicated to improving patient lives. While the position will initially start as a transitional role without compensation, it offers compensation after a successful 90-day review period.

Responsibilities:
  • Accounts Receivable Follow-Up: Proactively follow up with insurance carriers and other payment sources to obtain timely reimbursement for outstanding invoices.
  • Collection Activities: Implement effective collection strategies to reduce outstanding balances, including contacting individual providers and third-party carriers.
  • Communication: Maintain strong relationships with third-party carriers and communicate any billing or reimbursement changes to management.
  • Data Integrity: Ensure the accuracy and completeness of the accounts receivable system database, including updating account information and transferring charges correctly.
  • Claim Resolution: Work diligently to resolve all outstanding claims and ensure accurate and timely payment.
  • Claim Appeals: Contact insurance carriers to confirm claim receipt and appeal denied claims or reimbursements below the contractual fee schedule.
  • Complaint Resolution: Identify and address patient or third-party carrier complaints, communicating any issues to management.
  • Account Adjustments: Make necessary adjustments to patient accounts to facilitate timely reimbursement, following established policies and procedures.
  • Team Contribution: Contribute to the achievement of department goals and objectives, adhering to policies, procedures, and quality standards.
  • Professional Development: Participate in multidisciplinary quality and service improvement teams and attend required meetings, training, and business-related activities.

Qualifications:
  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Minimum 2 years of experience in medical billing operations.
  • Proven proficiency in utilizing reference materials and following standard operating procedures.
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Proficiency in using Excel spreadsheets.
  • Knowledge of ICD-9/10 and CPT-4 coding.
  • Strong time management and flexibility are essential.
  • Ability to attend weekly or bi-weekly meetings with the CEO.
  • Understanding of federal, state, and local legal and regulatory provisions related to billing.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's Degree in Business, Healthcare Administration, or related field.
  • Certified Provider Credentialing Specialist (CPCS) or Certified Professional Biller (CPB) certification.   
  • Experience with eClinical Works EHR.
