Simulation Hospital Director

Summary of the Job:This person will conduct needs assessments, design simulation curriculum for instruction, facilitate simulation integrated into the curriculum implement and teach simulation education classes and follow up with a evaluation of curriculum. This person functions in the role of educator, facilitator, change agent, consultant, researcher, and leader.
Essential Functions:
- Facilitate the use of simulation to create immersive experiences designed to support learner’s attainment of course objectives.
- Design simulation scenarios in conjunction with educators to meet the educational needs of the learners and those of our external partnerships.
- Assist in planning and directing simulation activities.
- Assure compliance with regulatory and professional standards regarding the use of simulation in educational programs.
- Collect data on the effectiveness of simulation on student learning, critical thinking, and clinical decision making.
- Assure appropriate credentials are maintained in specialty areas/disciplines. Is this individual credentials?
- Investigate and submit proposals for potential grant opportunities to fund new simulation initiatives.
- Create and deliver professional presentations on simulation to local, state, or national groups.
- Maintain records of student’s clinical readiness to perform skills in real world settings according to approved policies
- Provide faculty orientation, ongoing development, and literature on the principles of simulation as an educational methodology with emphasis on the principles of prebriefing, facilitation, debriefing, evaluation and others as determined
- Operates, programs, and assures maintenance of all patient care simulators, bedside monitors and viewing/recording systems.
- Operates and assures maintainence of all patient care equipment and task trainers.
- Ensure student compliance with lab policies, procedures, and safety precautions.
- Contributes to development of lab budget, oversees purchasing of supplies, and writes capital justifications as needed.
- Supervises and approves time for simulation hospital employees.
- Performs assigned work safely, adhering to established departmental safety rules and practices; reports to supervisor, in a timely manner, any unsafe activities, conditions, hazards, or safety violations that may cause injury to oneself, other employees, patients, and visitors.
Maintains professional knowledge:
- Able to operate or learn to operate different simulator technologies ranging from anatomic models and task trainers to screen-based simulations to full body patient simulators and virtual reality simulation.
- Attend educational and technical workshops.
- Establish personal networks.
- Benchmark state-of-the-art practices.
- Participate in professional societies.
- Assist with other special projects or initiates as needed.
- Communicate in a positive, professional manner with faculty, students and other users of the Center.
Qualifications and Experience:
- Doctorate in Nursing or related field
- Licensed to practice nursing in the state of Texas
- Experience with curriculum development and training
- Minimum of 2 years experience with simulation
- CNE or other related certification preferred
