Summary of This RoleAs part of the IT organization within the Global Payments Data and Analytics team this leader will own, design, transform, and continuously improve the Architecture, Technology, Reliability, and Resiliency of the Global Payments Data Platform.

The Director of Data Architecture and Design will manage and drive the Global Payments Data Platform Implementation team to provide the most reliable, observable, and efficient Data Platform at Global Payments for use in Applications, Analytics, Data as a Service, AI, and Data Science for the Enterprise. This individual will manage a team and strategically lead to promote the development of the cloud data platform to provide data services to all departments within the Global Payments organization. Understand new technology and legacy patterns to constantly create reusable patterns for both ingestion and consumption processes and renovating existing data flows. This role provides strategic guidance for the architecture and design patterns to keep the Data Platform state of the art and viable for future looking plans.

Responsibilities

Evolve and Enhance the Data Platform to enable frictionless, efficient, reusable, and secure data ingestion and customer usage patterns. Our strategy is a cloud first mentality to build data and analytics focused platforms and methodology for the enterprise. This person will be responsible to ensure delivery meets commitments, budget, and forward thinking trends.

  • Oversee the expansion and population of Global Payments data platform and capabilities

  • Actively grow and mentor a team of data engineers and architects

  • Enable modern analytics methodologies utilizing the data lake to transform the way we drive Global Payments as a data driven enterprise

  • Initiate proofs-of-concept efforts and build roadmaps for new technology to support data analytics and data science needs

  • Manage vendor relationships associated with core technologies used for cloud, data analytics, reporting, advanced analytics, and all related ecosystems.

  • Establish and foster industry cloud and analytics research and benchmarking relationships and partnerships to leverage industry and technology knowledge and advancements.

  • Partner with Enterprise Architecture in data strategy to become a true data driven company.

  • Define, prioritize and manage data and analytics roadmap.

  • Must be able to lead a team with a diverse set of skill sets including data engineers, data scientists and data analysts.

  • Develop and evolve the framework for ingestion of data into the Data Platform

  • Evangelize the use reusable patterns and coding automation including the use of new Gen AI LLMs to reduce coding time and reshape the way development happens

  • Drive technology investments that utilize the Data Platform as a strategic tool, including business intelligence tools, data services, Gen AI, and cost reduction

  • Be a thought leader and evangelist of data platforms and technologies to drive adoption and knowledge at all levels of the organization

  • Ability to effectively articulate technical challenges and solutions to non-technical resources.

  • Expertise in dealing with data environments with high-data variability, and high-data volume.

  • Accomplished in scaling teams, managing multiple geographic locations and inspiring a team to deliver high quality projects at startup pace.

  • Develops and enforces policies and procedures to ensure the protection of enterprise data assets and the integrity, security and privacy of information entrusted to or maintained by the enterprise.

  • Provides a world-class working environment that enables IT to attract and retain industry-leading talent.

  • Provides leadership and direction promoting the people-service profit philosophy as well as encouraging the growth and development of team members..

  • Participates and contributes as a member of the executive officer team in the development and execution of organizational strategies and business objectives.

  • Drives Quality Driven Management through the organization by identifying metrics, performance standards and holding teams accountable to use tools and methods necessary to facilitate fact-based management.

  • Ensure data collection and storage adheres to applicable laws and regulations.

Project and Initiative Delivery

  • Based on project prioritization balancing resources, strategic must-dos, quick wins, and a broad portfolio of projects at GlobalPayments within budget

  • Strong execution, organized, on-time and delivery focused with high quality for all projects within the portfolio.

  • Manage resource planning exercises to optimize the mix of needed resources available within the team and or project.

Relationship and Leadership

  • Become a trusted advisor and partner for key business unit stakeholders across Global Payments business units and functional groups including but not limited to product, sales, relationship managers, finance, risk, and application development

  • Contribute as an active and engaged leader to ensure the success of all enterprise projects

  • Drive the overall strategic direction of the data platform capabilities to align with the IT and business leadership teams.

  • Understands and supports the Company’s goals and objectives, and makes certain that his/her actions and decisions, as well as those of his/her subordinates, are consistent with them.

  • Plans, organizes, directs, and controls the activities of his/her area of responsibility to facilitate the attainment of Company objectives, including equal employment opportunity, affirmative action and safety.

  • Work closely with the client community at all levels.

What Are We Looking For in This Role?

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree - Relevant Experience or Degree in: Quantitative Analytics, Statistics, Mathematics, Data Science, or similar disciplineTypically Minimum 10 Yrs. of Related Professional Experience; Prefer a Minimum of 5-6 Yrs. Managerial Exp.

  • Master's Degree
  • Quantitative Analytics, Statistics, Mathematics, Data Science, or similar discipline
  • Prior payment or technology industry experience is preferred.

  • Scope - Responsibilities: Responsibilities are Typically across a segment or the enterprise.

  • Reporting Relationship: Typically reports to a Senior Director or Vice President. May report to an Officer or Executive.
  • Problem Solving Requirements: Problems are broadly defined or uncharted. Typically limited assistance is available from senior management if required.
  • Span of Control Accountability: Typically directly leads five or more Supervisors, Managers, Senior Managers, higher level Professional / technical team members, or mid-level Senior Professionals. Manages resources to achieve organizational goals including staffing, work and performance management, salary decisions, training and development, and disciplinary issues.
  • Proficiency with sophisticated analytics tools and programming languages (e.g., SAS, SPSS, R, Python, SQL, HiveQL, Spark, Hadoop). Proficiency with visualization platforms such as Tableau, Qlikview, PowerBI, or JavaScript. Familiarity with “Big Data” frameworks. Experience with Agile delivery methodology is a plus. Direct experience in implementing business intelligence, data, and advanced analytics solutions preferred.
