TRANSFER OPPORTUNITY - IN ORDER TO BE CONSIDERED FOR THIS POSITION CANDIDATE MUST BE SERVING PERMANENTLY IN THE TITLE OF CIVIL ENGINEER.

The mission of the Sidewalk Program is to support the agency’s goal by providing for the safe, efficient, and environmentally responsible movement of people by making sidewalks safe and accessible for all pedestrians.

The candidate selected to fill this vacancy will be required to perform the following duties:

  1. Oversee DOT's standard pedestrian ramp upgrade and new installation contraction field operations managed by the Department of Design and Construction (DDC).
  2. Create reports and brief the Program Directors and designees on contract progress.
  3. Represent the Sidewalk Program Capital Contract Engineering group at Legal and Budget meetings.
  4. Assess the constructability of corners to determine if pedestrian ramps can be installed with the upgrade and new installation contracts.
  5. Supervise and audit tasks performed by the engineering staff.
  6. Evaluate complex corners, proposed alternative designs, etc.
  7. Perform mark-outs for high priority and complex locations.
  8. Ensure that staff audits corners constructed by contracts, perform necessary follow-ups and report on the results.
  9. Work closely with consultant engineers and inspectors to resolve daily issues and questions from DDC.
  10. Attend progress meetings to address issues that are outstanding.
  11. Review designs, plans and contract specifications/scopes.

Minimum Qualifications

(1) Four (4) years of full-time, satisfactory experience in civil engineering work; and (2) A valid New York State Professional Engineer’s License. Current New York State registration as a Professional Engineer must be maintained for the duration of your employment.

A master's degree in civil engineering from an accredited college or university may be substituted for one year of the civil engineering experience required above.

Special Note: In addition to above qualification requirements, to be eligible for placement in Assignment Levels II and III, individuals must have at least one year within the last three years of experience as a major contributor or a project leader on a complex project requiring additional and specific expertise in the disciplines needed to design or construct the project.
