DIRECTOR – INFORMATION AND SIMULATION TECHNOLOGY

INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY DEPARTMENT

Malcolm X College is seeking a Director of Information and Simulation Technology. The Director-Information & Simulation Technology for Malcolm X College plans, directs, implements, and manages computer systems and operations which support the needs of the college, while following the goals and objectives to interface District-wide. Additionally, the Director oversees the Information Technology infrastructure and instructional technologies that support a state-of-the-art virtual hospital and simulated learning environment, enabling student learning and practice of patient care skills in the college’s School of Health Sciences and School of Nursing. This role is instrumental in helping to design and implement technologies to support the campuses Healthcare programs.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

  1. Develops strategies, vision, workflow, plans, implementation strategies, and manages/recommends the policies, procedures, and operations on the effective use of the college’s computer network, wired and wireless infrastructure and systems.
  2. Responsible for the daily operation and oversees the preparation, maintenance, inventory, and operation of all simulation equipment.
  3. Responsible for the hiring, onboarding, training, and management of all IT staff.
  4. Analyzes processes, work operations, quality records, and other data sources to identify opportunities for improvement and develop solutions.
  5. Works to develop intermediate and long-term budget plans that include forecasting staff needs, equipment procurement, hardware and software replacement cycles, and other resources.
  6. Provides leadership with technology innovation and applications with patient simulation systems and support technology.
  7. Maintains proficiency in existing and emerging trends in the use of simulation and virtual reality in health care education.
  8. Develops a strategic security, cybersecurity and data integrity issues plan for the network and systems.
  9. Provides consistent leadership within the organization and operation of Information Technology to support administrative and academic functions of the college.
  10. Consults with users (administrators, faculty, staff, and students) to determine problems and methods of enhancement.
  11. Maintains inventory of all computer and simulation equipment at the college.
  12. Establishes methods for servicing and ensuring computers are working.
  13. Establishes and maintains the college’s budget for computer automation and enhancement.
  14. Develops operating budgets for the purchase and maintenance of computer, software and simulation equipment.
  15. Serves as primary contact between the college and the District Office of Information Technology.
  16. Leads, directs, and reviews the work of assigned professional and clerical staff.
  17. Participates in district, campus executive office, and/or local team meetings.
  18. Implements recommendations for applications and technical support services.
  19. Maintains expert knowledge on information systems and policies of the District.
  20. Develops and conducts ongoing user training sessions on automation and its associated technology.
  21. Performs other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Master’s Degree from an accredited college or university in Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related field.
  2. Five (5) years of management experience in an IT environment.
  3. Experience working in areas of healthcare information technology and simulation technology required.
  4. Knowledge of IT infrastructure supporting simulation equipment and software.
  5. Knowledge and understanding of simulation technologies utilized in the healthcare industry.
  6. Demonstrated commitment to diversity and multiculturalism in one’s work experience.
  7. Experience working within a unionized setting preferred.
  8. Demonstrated ability to create a learning environment that fosters student success.
  9. Proficiency in the use of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
