Consistent with CertainTeed Gypsum Vision, Mission, Values and Objectives, the Reliability Engineer identifies and quantifies Line 1 and Line 2 root cause failure(s), and drives permanent solutions to address systemic or chronic mechanical deficiencies to world class levels of safety, environmental impact, quality, service, and efficiency standards within the financial internal controls framework. The position is responsible for managing the Emergency Work Order (EWO) process, ensuring failures are driven to root cause and eliminated, improving plant up time, asset utilization, mechanical efficiency and capability improvements using proven World Class Manufacturing (WCM), Professional Maintenance and Reliability Centered improvement processes, the development of technical maintenance systems, and cultural and professional growth of team members.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES

  • Champions and models a safety first environment and keeps up to date on new safety policies, procedures and initiatives.
  • Champions Reliability Centered maintenance activities, utilizing the Professional Maintenance World Class Manufacturing techniques in driving equipment reliabilities to the highest possible levels.
  • Works directly with the Maintenance teams to troubleshoot and inspect problems.
  • Troubleshoots and inspects problems, analyzing and resolving issues accurately and efficiently in a cost-effective manner.
  • Develops and optimizes inspection and time-based preventative maintenance.
  • Uses predictive technology to drive equipment reliability.
  • Utilizes WCM tools to identify and eliminate root cause failures.
  • Develops standard operating procedures (SOPs) to improve maintenance quality and reduce or eliminate issues.
  • Develops plans for weekly down days and extended outages to implement countermeasures developed from root cause analysis.
  • Ensures key performance indicators are captured and reported for equipment reliability, planning and scheduling business flow process.
  • Tracks and presents all performance measures on the Reliability Pillar Board.
  • Provides engineering expertise and support for maintaining equipment.
  • Provides coaching/mentoring and communicates performance updates and plans as directed.
  • Assures good housekeeping practices (5S) through auditing, enforces plant rules and safety regulations.
  • Adheres to Safety Management Audit Tool (SMAT) and Observational Safety Audit (OSA) audit usage and compliance.
  • Fosters a high-performance team environment through engagement, buy-in and contribution.
  • Models company Vision, Mission and Values and champions Organizational Health methods.
  • Works in an effective and cross-functional manner with all members of the plant management team.
  • Attends and participates in regular and ad-hoc meetings and functions as required.
  • Works off shift, weekends or holidays as required to support planned and unplanned downtime conditions.

MINIMUM KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS REQUIRED

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Management or similar disciplines, or five (5) years of equivalent training and experience that provides a comprehensive working knowledge of the laws, regulations, practices and procedures of a Lean/World Class Manufacturing operation may be substituted for a degree.
  • Six to eight (6-8) years of applied professional experience working in production in an industrial/manufacturing environment.
  • Familiarity with Lean/World Class principles and practices.
  • Ability to provide leadership and innovation at all levels of the organization utilizing differing styles of management and communication; from directive, to coaching and support, through delegation, as the situation arises.
  • Strong influencer with conflict management skills.
  • Results driven, flexible and open-minded with good written and oral communication.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite.

PREFERRED OR DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or similar field.
  • Ten (10) years of applied professional production experience with specifically 4 years’ experience in direct supervision, employee relations and scheduling.
  • World Class Manufacturing (WCM) Instructor or similar qualification.
  • Previous experience in gypsum, steel or paper industry.
  • Proven ability to be an outstanding coach and leader.
  • Advanced Microsoft Office Suite proficiency, CMMS experience and familiarity with SAP software.
